S. .N3W8om, county health officer, died suddenly yesterday at her home in Prlnevllle, according to a telephone -report received by the health officer. Dr. Newsom", left at once by auto for Prineville. So far as the local man knew bis mother was in good health and the news of her untimely passing came as a distinct shock' to him and his family. Mrs. Newsom was a widely known Oregon pioneer, having, lived In eastern Oregon tor the past BO years. Besides Dr. ' Q. S. Newsom she leaves two other sons, John and Sam, both of Prlnevllle. Mrs. Anne Allen Reed, sister ot the late James Lane Allen, novelist, died to day at her home in Manhattan. She was the last surviving member ot the Immediate family of the novel ist, who died two weeks ago. She was 81 years of age and had been ill tor six months. She was never told ot the death ot her brother because her friends feared file an nouncement would bo fatal to her.
