Haskins were hosts at dinner Thursday evening. . Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. Hi' Hobbs and Mr. and Mrs. N. LaRant of Salem. Mr. and Mri. W. F. Hill enter tained at dinner Friday evening tor - Mr. and Mrs. LaRant of Salem. Their guests -were Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hobbs and the' honor guests. Miss Evelyn Hulet who Is at tending summer school at Ashland spent the week-end in Merrill. Mr, and Mrs. R. H. Anderson en tertained at dinner Friday evening. Plates were laid for Mr; and Mrs. R. L. ' Dalton, Louise Dalton, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Merrill and the host and hostess and Thins and Helen Anderson. y t " ' - Mr. Robert Fans made a trip to ' Ashland last week. '" - - , Mr. John D.. Rice arrived in Mer rill Sunday evening to attend the . funeral of his sister. Mrs. C. H. Merrill. The fnner of Mrs. Morrill . was held in the First Presbyterian church Monday ' morning at 10 o'clock. The large crowd of friends and neighbors was evidence of the love and esteem by which Mrs. Merrill was held by the community. Rev. C- C. Hulet preacned the ser- - mon. The choir sang a couple of ' songs and Miss Pauline Gaicominl ' sang a solo. There was a most Jteau- tlful collection of floral pieces and the grave was covered with flow ers. Out of respect to Mrs. Merrill tho business houses were all closed during the funeral hour. The sym pathy of nil go to the sorrowing fnmily. , . Mr, and Mrs. Purl R. Morrill left for their home In Cottonwood, California. Messrs. Chas. Brown, John, Hen ry and chas. Cox, left Tuesday rcorning on a business trip near 3hlco, Calif. Rev. ; C. C. Hulet left Tuesday for Eugene, Oregon to attend the annual meeting of the Synod of the Presbytery which meets there for a two-weeks session.- Next Sunday the pnlplt here win ba filled by Rev. white, a Baptist minister.
