HARBOR TO 1 COST MILLIONS usmess T"Ta Oirectory Voters Approve $15,000,000 Bond Issue, Clear Way for Vast Improvements :. LOS ANGELES, .Calif., July 13. When the voters of Los Angeles ap proved a bond Issue of $15,000,000 fo,. harbor 1 improvements recently, tho'y cleared the way for a aeries of Improvements that will be under taken Just as soon' as sale of the bonds can be completed. ; The first result of the Increased funds will be the doubling of the harbor force. About i;000 persons are now employed by the city In that division of its affairs. This number will be doubled at once and later on the force will be increased to 2,500 workers.. . Much dredging will be undertak en. A thirty foot channel will be dredged around the edge of the west basin, and. Sheds : and wharves 'will be built alongside this new channel. Mormon Island' will be improved by the construction- of .wharves'.' and sheds on the west side; ' The channel on the east side of the east basin . will be dredged' to the Lon Beach City line, at a cost of $500,000. Four slips will be dredged ln the main channel, on the west side of ! Terminal island. This will cost II, 000,000. Wharves will be built on . the south end of Terminal island, to cost $150,000. , Another $'3,b6o,000 will be spent in the outer ;. harbor. Shallow wa ter will be filled in, and three large slips dredged and wharves built to accomodate thirteen liners.' .' ; - Pier :No. i. 'which 'is 1,800 ; feet long, jwill be widened 22 feet, this space to ,be utilized ffr freight tracks for direct loading. ( The water front at San Pedro will bo Improved from Fifth street north by demolishing:: antiquated f - sheds' and replacing them with modern docks and sheds, to cost $1,000,000. Transit sheds will be built on the west side of the main channel, to cost $230,000. " - , , Improvements to be undertaken at once will cost, In all, about $10, 000,000.: Other improvements will follow the completion of those cov ered by the Initial program. .
