Famous For Its Marvelous Motor

piece of beef cooked tn 1805 is still
being carefully preserved in a little
silver pitcher by Edward B. Man
waring of this city. This Is not being
kept in anticipation of a further In
crease in the cost of beef, but is a
genuine heirloom.
Sergeant Joseph Hobbins ot the
British royal marines saved this
piece ot beef, which ho was eating
when assaulted with an axe by a cook
on a French vessel which had been
captured by Lord Nelson at Trafal
gar. The cook missed his aim but
the sergeant got the beef.
Sergeant Hobbins was the gTeat-great-grandfather
of Lieut. Colonel
Edward B. Manwaring of the U. S.
marine corps, son of Mr. Manwaring
ot this city. This officer is said to
be the only member of the United
States marine corps who Is a direct
descendant of a former royal marine
of Great Britain.
