The un usual point that women should not be allowed to be members of grand juries was urged here before the last session of the Third District Court of Appeals by attorneys for R. E. Len sen, convicted In Modoc county of vio lating the Wiley local option law. Lensen was convicted In the super ior court following Indictment by a grand Jury on which were eight wo men. The contention of the defend ant's attorneys is that the case is without precedent, and has no au thority in law. So far as known it is the first time the point has been urged In this state, : and the first instance of women on a grand Jury. The case was taken un der advisement. plan to be put into effect today, I Attorney General Gregory will be requested by congress to assemble at onco United Slates grand Juries in ev ery locality where the, ncthitlcs of the I. W. W. have been apparent, place a United States Judge In charge, and Indict and try all offenders on the spot without loss of time. The plan contemplates assembling grand Juries at East St. Louis, Doug, las. Aril.; Columbus, X. M : lllsbeo. Arli., and at points In Oregon and Washington, where there have been indications of unwonted activity on the part of the organisation's agents. These Juries will sit simultaneously, and it is believed that in this way a death blow will be struck nt the or ganisation without delay. .MNNIMMI Clearance Sale A Money Saving CHRISTIAN CHURCH MRLE SCHOOL PICNIC THt'R&DAV TREMENDOUS FOOD SHIPMENT FROM COLORADO THIS YEAR .DENVER, Colo., July 17. TWELVE MEN ARRESTED LAST NH3KT LEAVE THIS MORNING No farther attempts to destroy the property of the city were reported last Bight, and it U believed that with the precautions taken to safeguard the community by the citizens' com amittee, the city will be reasonably safe from future depredations. Twelve sen arriving on the train last erealng, whose characters ap peared questionable, were taken Into custody by Deputy V. 8. Marshal John Faraell. They were released this morning, however, on the agreement that they leave the cllty Immediately, which they did. The bridge at the west end of town Is carefully guarded, and no one al lowed to pass unless his business is known to be legitimate. The city hall and court bouse are also carefully watched. There is a probability that the pris oners, which now number about forty in the 'ty jail, will be given a bear ing today, and those who can give a clear account of their actions will be released. Y.
