the recent conference In Washington.

basis of half a school quarter.

ian nation and correct the century-old
impressions entertained abroad regard
ing the people who Uve la Italy, their
qualities aad their ambitions.
The navy publicity ofllce also Is at
tempting to encourage the develop
ment of the Italian merchant aaarlae,
showing that a country almost sur
rounded by the sea should extend her
seafaring Interests. The ofllce, which
Is In Rome, Is la charge of a naval offl
cer of captain's rank, who acts as ces
ser. The managing editor has a staff
of a dozen newspaper writers, who
make It their business to travel with
different naval vessels, visit scenes of
disaster, report battles and submarine
captures aad write special articles.
All of their work Is prepared by the
managing editor aad then distributed
to the Italian newspapers aad reviews.
In addition, if a special writer from
some local or foreign newspaper or
review wishes to get Information f rst
hand, he is examined regarding his
credentials, aad these being satlsfac
tory, is given permission to travel
when and where be pleases, his aril
