Morrow, who Is the chief sur-i teon at the base hospital In Belgium, has been decorated with the Order ot Leopold, by King Albert of Belgium. This honor Is considered the highest that can, be given by the king. Dr. Morrow has been In the hos pital service in Europe for a year, leaving Portland for the war zone a year ago this month. The base hos pital contains 2,000 beds, and Dr. Morrow has about thirty-five surgeons under his charge. Dr. Morrow was reared and educated in Portland. ANOTHER CANDIDATE FOR THE RECEIVERSHIP The nomination of receiver of the local United States land office, which Dame Rumor had fixed for the first ot the week, apparently failed to ma terialize. However, the faithful ex pect to hear of the appointment any day now. J. Scott Taylor, recorder of New Pine Creek, has thrown his dicer into the ring, as it were, and last week he wired the Oregon senators to the ef fect that he would accept the appoint ment with thanks. Some, ten or twelve years ago Mr. Taylor was the democratic nominee for state printer, but at that time his party was so far in the minority that he failed of elec tion. He has always taken an active interest in politics, and hence is of the opinion that the senators may took with favor upon his candidacy for the receivership. Lake County Examiner. Wm. J.
