There moat be an equable method of placing the cost xtt good roads, and, shore all. there must be Insisted upon a system of highway toaatructloa which wtll gire a dollar's worth ot road for et err dollar expended." These principles are particularly applicable to Klamath county at the present time. Economy In public at 'fairs Is the demand of the times er ,ery where, aad nowhere Is It more necessary than la this county after the extraragant management of the last four rears, during which time the tcountr debt has Increased about '$400,000, notwithstanding the enor mous sums of money collected from the taxpayers and spent during the same period. It will be for the TOtera to deter- J mine by their rotes on Norember 3 whether or not they want this extrar agant management to continue or not. ItlVERH ARE STILL CLOSED T 3 LUMBERING to be abandoned by the mills purchasing Umber on the Klamath Indian reservation?" U a question that many are asking, looking back to a year ot unsuccess ful endeavor to secure the re-opealag of Williamson and Sprague rivers to logging. It haa been about a year since the matter first came to the at tention of Klamath Falls people, aad since that time every conceivable agency has been brought Into play la the hope of securing the opening. These rivers, which are the natural means for transporting the logs from the woods to the mills at Chlloqula. were closed to logging by the bureau of indiaa affairs, after a petition bad been sent in by some sportsmen and Indians, protesting that the driviag of logs would interfere with the trout fibbing. Strenuous efforts have been made to have the rivers re-opened, but so fsr la vala. The matter was taken up by the Klamatb Chamber of Commerce; by the county republican aad democrat central committees; through personal letters to influential people in the Kast and West; through the Oregon delegation in congress; through tele grams, letters and petitions to the Department of the Interior aad In dian bureau; through commercial clubs all over Oregon and California but logging oa the rivers is as much barred today as a year ago. In' me spring a promise was maoe ty In dian Commissioner Cato Sells that be would make a personal Investigation. Spring came, but no Mr. Sells, Instead a telegram that he would be here dur ing the summer. This In turn was followed by a telegram stating that the commissioner would be here early la the fall. After Sells telegraphed that be would be here, the local campaigning ceased, for It was felt that what was needed was about accomplished. But bow winter is fast approaching, and aa yet nothing baa been doae. The Chamber of Commerce has sgala takea up the matter with Seere tary Laae.'ia the hope ot geMtas; some srtlontahea. U would he wsll for every, persea laterestod to the future ef this seetioa to make seat effort In the hope, that by spring thla great Injustice to our lumber Interests will bo corrected and the mtlla at Chllo quln can all run lull blast. Ore WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR BOOTH Republican Candidate, for United States Senator Are you better off now than you were under a Repub lican administration? Are you satisfied? If you believe in the principles of the Republican Party, if you arc convinced that these principles arc best for the country, then prove it by voting for your standard-bearer, Robert A. Rooth, Republican candidate for the United States Senate. You know that under Republican Presidents the people of the United States have good times. You know that under Democratic Presidents you have democratic times. Remember the prosperity under McKinley, Roosevelt and Taft. Remember conditions under Cleveland and Wilson. The issue in tins campaign is not one of personality. Il is not one of non-partisnuship. It is a question of whether you prefer prosperity under Republican administration. Do you have enough work? Are your wages good? Is your busincs what, you Want it to be? If you are satisfied with present conditions, well and good; if you believe that the present situation is better than under McKinley, Roosevelt and Taft, vou know what to do. The way to bring back prosperity is to help elect a Re publican Senate, The Republican candidate in Oregon i R. A Booth. r This is a Republican year.
