KLAMATH CAMA ORHOON THVR80AT, APRIL 4, IBIS ITXITKU STATES 8KNATOII TN TWO more week the people of X Oregon will cxprca their choice tor candidates for United State itn ator. Undoubtedly Dr. Harry Une will bo the democratic candidate. while the general sentiment through' nut the tato would indicate that the republican nomination lies between Den Selling and Jonathan Bourne Jr. We bellere that tho people of Klamath and Lake counties ahoutd make their choice between Selling and nourne, rather than waste their votes on either of the other candi dates. Jonathan nourne has practic ally completed his term of sli yoara In the United States 8enate, and the Motile of Orecon during this time have had ample tlmo In which to Judge by result whether he Is the best and proper man to represent the state. If the people are satisfied with tho record of Mr. Bourne, they will have no dIOculty In determining for whom to cast their vote. On the other hand, It tho people of these two counties nre not favorablo to Senator Bourne, then It would be policy for them to support the man who stands the best show of defeating him In tho nomination, from a care ful study of the situation wo believe that Mr. Selling Is the-man who can. and who Is going to do this. Oregon Is a progressive state, and Mr. Selling has always been a sincere worker for progressive legislation. During his eight years service In the. state son ate, the last term of which he waa honored by election as president of that body, the people of the state have grown to placevthe utmost con fidence In his honesty, sincerity and ability,, and when It became neces ary for the republicans to determine on a man to make the race for the Important position of United 8tatea senator, to succeed Mr. nourne, it as but natural that Mr. 8elllng should at once take rank as the log leal man for the place. Mr. Selling Is a man of unquestioned Integrity and of acknowledged business ability. For forty years he has engaged In active business here, and to him there It no state but Oregon. The following Is from a statement made .In his behalf by Mark Wood ruff of Pertland: "The widespread sentiment to have business men In congress Is well seat ed In Oregon. The nation and state are but large business enterprises, needing successful business men at their heads. Mr. Selling has mado a tuccest of hit butlncss. Kvery dollar be owns has been mado by himself In Oregon, and every dollar Is invested in this state. Ho ha always paid the full wage scalo for labor. The Selling building In Portland Is one of tho two Isrgo structures In that city which were erected wholly by union labor, hence the friendly attitude of labor circles. For the last fourteen years Ben Selling's largo number of em ployes have shared with him In the profits of his business." HIMPMFIKD CITY OOVWtNMKXT WK WOULD call tlio attention of our leader to an article apeparlng In thl Issue written for the Herald by Charlea K. Holmburg. commissioner of the department of health and civic beauty of the city of Orand Junction, Colorado. This ar ticle deals with a matter that I of particular Importance to the people of Klamath Falls at this time, Inasmuch a the voters will soon determine the system ot city government by which they wished to be governed In tho fu ture. We would request our readers to consider this article carefully, and tee It It would not be better for Klamath Falls to take It place In the front rank with the progressive cities of the 'nation, rather than to adopt a system of city government which was In vogun In this state, fif teen to twenty yesrs ago, and which these cities are now replacing with more modern legislation.
