The hall was filled to overflowing with students and Eugene people. Presi dent V. I.. Campbell of tho university and Bev. K. P. Hammond. Mr. Geary states that tho memorial decorations were beautiful and Im pressive, the students having gone Into tho woods and gathered great quantities ot greenery, which were placed about the rostrum. In the evening the body lay for vlow by the students, with members ot the Junior class acting as ushers. At midnight the freshman class, num bering about 150 young men, with bared heads, marched with the re mains to the Southern Pacific depot. Tho escort formed two long line on cither side ot the funeral carriage. stopping at tho depot and making . lano through which the remains were rarrled to tho train. A Half a dozen physicians who visited and examined the body of Noland .it ter the tragic death agreed that his death was a peaceful one. and attend ed with no suffering, Mr. Geary says. Tho expression of tho features was calm and peaceful, as though the student-athlete were asleep. The burns on the body were not severe, as reported In some Instances. Mr. Chandler and Sidney Hendor son, the former a fellow member ot the football team with Virgil, had living quarters with him In a suite of two rooms In the Sigma- Nu chapter house. Mr. Chandler entered tho rooms about s:30 p. m. Wednesday, where Virgil lay In the electric bath robe, and chatted with him for a mo ment. About ?30 o'clock Mr Hen derson, returning from clases, step pod Into the room where Virgil was, I but did not notice that tu was llng on the bed.
