Oregon showa up poorer than either of the other statea In amount ot Increase In actual percentage or In dollars, either way you wish to fig ure It We frequently hear from men who claim to kaow, wko ongkt to know and who probably do know since they are la the buslnosa that there are large stretches of country la the atate of Oregon which are Ideally adapted to dairying and stock raising. Much of that country la at the very doora ot thla city, In the great Klam ath Basta. With such a condition or resources and natural advantages la there any reason why Oregon ahonld be the tall-eader In tha line? Por that'a Just what she Is. In the percentage, her 74.9 Increase la livestock valua tloa la the decade ended last year compares with T7.7 per cent la Cali fornia and 119.9 par cent la Wash- lagtoa. Oood sugar beets are raised la this region, and ths colls from the beet sugar Industry, aa well as ths "tail ings" we una this word under pres sure of basta make some of the best food that avsr tickled the palate of a hungry steer. It's mighty chesp food, too. So here Is ths layeut: Klamath territory la wide and far for the stock raiser and for the sugar brst grower. There It all sorts of room for both bis kind hereabouts. The soil Is In many places adapted to the growth of the augar beet, and there Is ample territory for the herding and raising of thousands upon thonsandt of cat tle. Even without sugar beets, there would be plenty of advantages for the cattle raiser, but the advantago of tho sugar bet In addition makes the proposition so much stronger that nobody offers any argument to dis count ths situation. Progress of one will man progress of the other, for tho more augar beeta that are grown hers the more cheap feed there will be for stock raltrrt to depend on, and the mora eattle that are raised ths more the beat sugar men will be encouraged to make a demand for their product with the prospect of selling the left over part of their working product The more beet sngar men engaged In making augnr ths mors thsrs will be growing the best There Is no better time than now for encouraging both. Parma are necessary to any well regulated, prosperous country, and this region hat not enough farms by far. It will not be many years until farms will be at the very gates of tho city growing the flnett kind of things to eat, but there Is no good resson for ot hastening the time. In fact, there Is every good and logical reason for speeding the happy day. As It Is now ths demand for cattle It so great that cattle are shipped ont of thla aectlon, and the price at pres ent Is higher than It hat been ta a long lime. Not only that, but tn nutaliln demand, which makes the market, Is such that (he meat that Is butchered hero from range fed steers la often not of tho choicest. The stock raisers have such a call on (hem for what they can ship out that they've no time to tool with anything like fancy fed cattto tor home consumption. Tho demand from tho outside is such that the vast majority of young cattle are aold and shipped to buyers who can give them the post graduate dining course elsewhere In spots where (ho fancy feed Is moro plenty nnd more economical. Have you heard any cattle men complaining ot low prices or poor market lately T Hardly. The reason they do not complain la because they are getting along, and lb neonle of Klamath Kails will be setting along belter If they urge for mors farmers, more rattle and n apeedler settlement of the vast areas hereaboula which are yawning for settlers. With a united effort and a cour ageous movement the farmers will bo brought In here the stock will be raised, Klamath Falls and Its neigh bors will all reap the benefit, and this region will have tho satisfaction or seeing the relative figures on cattle laduatrv la ths Pacific coast statea Changs favorably to Oregon, and of knowing that the homo folks bare had their ahoulder to (he wheel and lone their ahare of the pushing.
