The Indian legends regarding Cra ter lake, should they ever be com pletely written, would make an In teresting story book. Until recently very few Indians have gaxed Into the depth ot the lake. Not Infrequently when look ing from the rim on the waters of the lake there comes Into view, seeming ly, a monstrous dragon, which ap parently lies close to the surface o( the water, and whoso head and body gently oscillate from side to tide. Careful investigation has shown that tho Illusion Is due to tho air current which ruffio tho surface of tho lako Irregularly, thereby produc ing an aparltlon which takea the form ot a dragon. Crater lake Is slightly elliptical In shape, nnd l miles In diameter nt Its widest point. Near the shore on tho western side Is a huge cinder cone, remarkably symmetrical In form nnd rising StS feet nbovo the lake. It Is known ns Wltnrd Win ml. and It has a crater of Us own which Is fully 100 feet deep, nnd contains snow during the greater part of the year. At present the most pleasing meth od of reaching Crater lake Is by rail road to Klamath Falls. Prom this point there la Journey by boat con suming the greater part of the day on Upper Klamath lake. Thltt lake Is one of the most beautiful In tlje West. Leaving the lake ncarthc Klamath Indian reservation, there U a stage ride of twelve miles through beau tiful forests to Fort Klamath.
