State Senator S. C. Beach believes that she should and with that belief will introduce a bill in the next legislature seeking to change the existing law as it stands. At present a wife has no protection under the law, orr,on..iiriDWitirani pi th.nrt.uoi or practically none. Senator Beach has been driven to the serious consideration of the subject by instances of this.fact which have come under his observation. In one case a couple had grown old in Portland and were well known to the senator. For years they had struggled and saved until they had accumulated a goodly competence, and this was done in large part through the wise manage ment and forethought of the wife. The husband died and left a will which divided the property among his brothers and sisters, leaving the aged wife with a bare pittance. As a result of the and the worry of it the woman lost her reason confined in a California asylum. Other instances perhaps not so pathetic, iust. have been observed by the senator, and he expects to introduce the bill and make a hard fight fornolIlo"r"n,I"" ,0 "'1" Mr"' ''""'i ..; ti.nCariitie.ot Ktamatii Faii.,ur. it rlntnnrr trio 1Qi"rQ cocainn nf thtx lorricliriiro Vnf enmo. lo cMa,'ll,1' cU!'" A plow man turned up a silver watch of old and costly pattern and after admiring it wound and set it, but despite re peat ed shaking the watch would not run. In all former cases of this character you may recall the watch has started running as slick as grease on a duck's back and wes a good timepiece ever afterward.
