Nearly ouo-hnlf of the area to be irrigated ia now uiiiler water to a depth or from otio to (ifteen feet nml will be reclaimed by a system of drainage to lower tlie level of the rivt-ra nnd lakes. A large part of the Hwnmp laud and practically nil of the valley land In tlio Klamath linsin are held in private own endup mid sonic in very largo tracts which must bn sold in tracts of ICO acre-, nr less under tho regula tioni governing llio perfection of n water-right. KLAMATH'S For its development and pros- OUKATEST pcrity tho Klamath Basin must nave NEED people, and the right kind of people at that. Its groat need is Intelli gent, practical farmers, who understand tho meaning of intensified and diversified fanning; men who will buy land, not for speculative purposes, but with the idea of clearing off the sagebrush and making per. manent and cemfortablo homes. Such men are bound to succeed. There is room for thousands of them. Developing Kugnr beets have been grown ex Various periincutnlly throughout the Klam Industries nth Valley. The percentage of sugar is high, at fcill be noted from tho follow inK analysis made by the United States De partment of Agriculture from beets grown near sugar in beets, per cent., 21.7; sugar in juice, per rent., 1M 1 ; enr-flicicnt of purity, S.'J.l. .xicriiiiee has demonstrated that excellent us paragus, onions nnd celery can bu grown, thu tutu lauds being very similar to those of the Sacramento mid Sim .lonipiiu Valleys of California, where such vegetables nre so successfully cultivated. Through out tho world the reclaimed marshlands are the best suited for the highest development of dairy inter Oltt.l, There is no question that this will become n sugar beet producing section nud that n number of facto ries will be built and npeintcd with the development of the industry. All l.iiuls of fruit adapted to thu temperate zone thrivi' here apples, peaches, pears, cherries, prunes, plums, apricots and nectarines do well, and small fruits bear abundantly nml of excellent quality. There nro n great many small orchards throughout (lie basin that prove the adaptability of the region to the profitable production of fruit. K. L. .Smith, former president of tlio Oregon State Hoard of Horticulture, gives it ns his opinion that the foothill lands nre specially adapted to apple growing. Cultivation of the potato has passed beyond the experimental stage, the handy loam of the uplands producing them in great abundance. Klamath County wheat, grown without irrigation, took tho premium nt the New Orleans Exposition. Tho most important forage crop is alfalfa, the soil being peculiarly adapted lo its growth. Excess All landowners bciug required Holdings Must to sell their excess holdings, there Be Bold is n large area ot good I nnd for sale at reasonable figures, prices rang ing from about $15 to $35 for unimproved, and if-0 to (50 per acre tor improved laud. Land adjacent to the principal towns commands hiubcr prices. The. purchaser pays for the water right nt a cost of about" $18 per aero to bo paid for in ten equal annual in stallmeiits without interest. This amounts to less than the ordinary annual rental paid private ditch rompnnicB. Somo of the irrigators of Klamath Val ley (and they are tho most prosperous fnrmcrs) have already paid out to such companies for water $G0 per aero and rwn no water. All of thoso companies hovo been purchased by tho Oovcrnment and included in tho system. No publio lauds will bo open for settlement for several years. Climate ' The upland noil is mainly a rich sandy and loam of great uniformity and composed loll largely of disintegrated nnd eroded lava with nn admixture of volcanic asli nnd diatomacoous earth, the latter material of plant ori gin, formed in tho bottom of tho ancient sea which covered tho greater part of tho Great Basin, and of whieh Klamath Valley is a northwesterly extension. Such soil, characteristic, of many of tho richest agri cultural sections of the world, iuoludlng much of Italy and tho great plniim of India, is extremely fer tilo, and of lasting productiveness. The lako and title lands are made up of a volcanic soil containing much organic matter, a vegetable accumulation of ages, and is of a peatty nature. The climate is extremely healthful nnd not severe. Thoro is rarely any Winter weather beforo tho latter part 0! December, nnd but littlo rero weather during the cntiro Winter. Tho annual prooipitation is about fifteen inches, with little rain during the Summer months. IT WILL DO That'i what people often. My wien tktygef article! In the Grocery line.
