It is given out that in order to assist in
the immigration work of bringing sett
lers into the Northwest, the Harriman
lines will reduce the rate on immigrant
movahles, carloads, from fl per 100
pounds from Missouri river common
points to 50 cents per UM) pounds; or in
other words, cut the rate in two. This
reduction will apply to all points on the
Southern Pacific lines in Oregon, Ash
land and north. This reduction will
amount to f 100 and over per car, and the
rate, of 50 cents is an exceptionally low
rate, being lower than the present rate
on any other commodity.
