Gains, of Washington for $1100.00 who will take possession at once. The deal was made through the Bellinger Real Entate Agency. The capital stock of the First National Bank of Ashland has l>ecn increased from $25,000 to $50,000 owing to a won derful increase in the business of the lamk during the year. Surely Ashland is growing at a wonderful rate. Tlie regular session of the town Ixiard was held last week and the usual routine business transacted. Action in the Con dor Power & Water Co's petition for the privilege of setting ¡»des, ami stringing electric wires in the city limits was deferred. An effort is lieing made in Ashland, by the amendment of the city charter, to rid the town of “blind pigs" and thus make of it a really dry town, which, from the literature that was circulated through* out the county alxMit election time re garding conditions there, we sup|a>se<l it to have been for many many years. Timlx-r wolves havetieen coming down out o( the mountains recently and prey ing upon the Barron sheep on Hiatt Prairie. One Wns killed not long ago that measured almost six feet from tip to tip. Deer are the greatest sufTerers from the depredations of these hungry brutes and in localities they are becoming quite numerous. Jno. Marsh is now at work fitting up the Masonic building just vacated by Mr. Conklin, for Mr. Furness who is going to put in a fine line of gents furnishings. There will lie a new show window or two put in and the building otherwise fitted up and improved to comply with the needs of the new occupant. C. B. Hansen, who has been one of the right hand men at the Greenqack mine for some time, ami who is said to lie one of the liest mining men in Southern Oregon, arrived here last week with his wife ami little boy, and has accepted a position nt the Opp mine where he will look after the concentrators and cyanide plant for the new company. We learn that the Condor Water & Power Co., have bought the big Rogue River falls up the river, of Mr. Salstrom, for $10,500. Good for Ray, he ileserves much credit for hi« enter prise. While the rest are doing so much talking, Dr. Ray is sawing wood and spending his money. Give credit where it is due and push.—Gold Hill News. The Salstrom right includes what is known as Rogue River Falls, which is a mad cataract of Rogue River, in which the stream makes a drop of 250 feet in 700. It also includes Mill Falls, the falls of Mill Creek over Rogue River Canyon, the water having a sheer drop of 1W1 feet. Just what Mr. Ray will do with the power right thus derived is not yet known, but the fact of his already having expended some $200,000 in the Condor enterprise at Gold Ray indicates that he has faith in the ultimate value of water power in Southern Oregon. At present the Salstrom right is somewhat removed from the better settled jxirtions of Southern Oregon, but it is located directly on the main traveled road over the Cascades to Crater Lake Park and the Klamath country, and would be likewise directly on the most feasible route for an electric line, in the event of such an enterprise coming to |>ass, which it undoubtedly will within the next few years with the development of the country, and the increase of travel to Crater Lake Park, and Klamath.
