Fla and the Colored Players Film Company ol Philadel phia These are what remain ot more than twenty such enterprises that have come and gone since Hunter Haynes, known in Chicago as a razor strap manufacturer went to New York and started the pioneer picture producing bus.nea8 that employed a colored cast. Tttbre ire more than 350 concert artists, rccal and instrumental, perhaps halt as many touring individuals and groups who play under auspices; that Is, they play churches, lodge halls, school houses and such places, under the pro motion ot a local organization that sponsors the engagement and sells tlie tickets. A dozen more are somewhat promotional in character They individually, or ui groups ot two and three, enter a town and train local talent tor ■hows pageants, celebrations and dramas All of these are show people, and this latter group are the instrumentalities lor the recruiting oi much new talent to the previously named brandies ol the business Then comes the ouldoot world with Ha twenty odd minstrel shows more than a hun dred plantation shows with carnivals a v ore of medicine shows a dozen circus sideshow bands, a halt hundred novelty acts and freak', Its animal trainers and caretakers, the several hundred decorators and concessioners, without whose sale» no holiday, convention, anniversary or c e lebrat ion would be complete. These, perhaps, total approximately two thousand mort show folks. Motion picture scenario writers, laboratory employees, operators, photographers and a few other technicians account tor a couple hundred more. There are morr than r hundred very active show people engaged in the business angles—owners, mana gers. advance and press agents, gen eral agents, promoters and billers There arc known to be more than a hundred colored bill posters in tlie country, some ol whom carry Union cards Then, to go back within the thea ter walls, we may lake cognizance of the stage managers, electricians, property men, programmers, ushers, cashiers and ticket takers.
