If their qualifications and character merited it. all pla ces o f leadership should be open to colored youth on e- qual terms with white youth. The action of the Older Girls Conference which met recently in Albany, seems to prove that this dream is be- injf realized. For at this conference, Miss Chrvstalee Maxwell of Salem. Oregrm was one of the six delegates elected from Oregon to at tend the Western Girls’ Con ference at Geneva Glen. Col orado this coming summer. At this conference, three of which are held each summer in different parts of the U- nited States, the state dele gates are (riven three weeks of intensive training that fits them for leadership of Older Girls Conference in their states. The fact o f Miss Max well’s election indicates that the pirls o f this state recog nize her qualifications and want to see her become one of their leaders. This same organization two years ago chose as its president. Miss Sumie Yam- ainota. a Japanese girl and as one of their delegtes. Miss Anna Paratrovich. an Indian girl Chemawa. One of the delegates chosen this year is also another Indian girl from Chemawa. W e arc glad that the young womanhood of this state is willing to recognize ability for leadership in girls of other races and are will ing to share with them the opportunity for training for that leadership. W e also greatly appreciate the lead ership in the person of Mrs. lean M. Johnson, which the girls of this state have. 4 Money to detrav the ex penses of the delegates. $125 each must be provided main ly be their friends as the or ganization has not sufficient funds for the purpose. Let us as colored citizens get back of Miss Maxwell financially and show the Ol der Girls Conference that when they are willing to choose our girls as leaders, wc arc readv to back them with our monev.
