Council Colored Student Heads College Paper Los Angeles, Cal., Feb. 23. The Bishops Council of the A M E . church, which m eets twice a year and brings together many of the leading churchm en, will be the guest of the city of Los 'A ngeles next June. This word has just been received from W il m ington, N. C , where the Bishops have just adjourned. It is planned for the Bishops to meet in a body in Chi cago or K ansas City and come to Cal ifornia together. C„ M arch 2.—John Preston Davis, graduate of D unbar High school and son ol Mr. and Mrs. W illiam H. Davis, of this city, has been honored at Bates College, Lewiston, Me., by his selection as editor in chief of the college paper, T he Bates S tu dent. Mr. Davis has under him 25 assistants, all of whom are white. Mr. Davi» is a junior in the college departm ent and is specializing in jo u r nalism. He is considered Bates’ best debater, and recently represented his school in the international debate with O xford. He has been selected to go to E ngland on the return debate with O xford. Olivet Baptist Church Makes Big Improvements The church has ju st completed a big change in the interior of the main auditorium. The platform or stage has bean enlarged to extend across the en tire church with doors entering from both sides. The entire floor is covered with a new carpet, with panel work in the background, m aking a very n th and aristocratic appearance.
