Tribute to Bride (Contributed) As a tribute to the bride-to-be, Miss Gwendolyn Corbett. whose marriage to Bert K. Snyder took place a few days since, the follow ing lines were composed by Mrs. Cook, whose non de plume is Edith Maida Leasing, and presented her at a shower party held in her honor by the Ladles Aid of the Presby terian Church last week. TO GWENDOLYN In the joy of life's golden Spring time In the sweet Springtime, of the land, With the bud of the rose, and the nesting birds, Love leads her forth by the hand When the true sweet vows have been spoken. And she knows that she is a wife. Tis then, with t,iie spell unbroken She will look on the world and life. May she be like the gifted artist, Who chooses his colors, rare, And paints in a holy vision. His picture with thought and care. f May she be like the sculptor -seeing In the heart of the lifeless stone. The wondrous shape, that his skill brings forth. When he knows its all his own. May she be like the rare composer. Who, will touch the strings of the lute, Til it thrills to tune to his music When once it was void and mute. May Joy and Hope surround her, And Luck all its joys fling. In a golden shower on her happy head Touched lightly by sorrow's wing. Then here's a toast to her futu And may all the Fates conspire, As the years may come and the years may go To bring her her heart's desire. As a result of the interest which has been aroused In the raising of corn in Oregon, it is stated that over 2,000 acres of the cereal has been planted in . the vicinity of Ontario. Most of the planting was done with carefully selected, acclimated seed, and as the growers are using the most modern means in its cultiva tion, it Is expected the yield will be the best ever turned out In the state. Over 40 corn cultivators were sold by Ontario merchants In one week. o The California Railroad Com mission has rendered a decision dis missing the application of the Mo doc Irrigation Company for authori ty to Issue bonds, notes and other evidences of Indebtedness in the sum ot $760,000 to develop the Cowhead Lake project. The commission ad vises that the present litigation of the Irrigation company over water rights should be disposed of before being granted authority to issue bonds.
