An initiative measure to be voted upon next November has been filed in Salem providing that no man, woman or child shall work more than eight boars a dsy or more than 48 hours a week. The initiative waa led br the Socialist party, and It la aaid to be the first purelv Socialist measure ever put forward under the initiative by that organisation. The only eieeptlon to the provision is in ease of accidents, fires or floods, wfcen persons may be employed more than eight hours a day at double pay for overtime. Tne Harney Cooaty News has ad vanced the name of William Hanley as candidate for Governor of Oregon at next election. The Mews atatea that they do not believe that the geograph ical location should dictate choice of candidates for the highest office in the state, and insofar aa Mr. Hanley is concerned he is peealarity a man from all over Oregon. VThether the News was acting upon any direct authority from Mr. Hanley in elating his name for Governor, is not known but the Examiner hopes it was. tie would make a veiy strong candidate and ws believe a good executive for the head of tbe state's government. a new road to connect with the West ern Pacific at Keynard, Nov., haa been filed with the secretary of that atate. While the new road will be a feeder to the Western Pacific It will In no way have an official connection with the Gould line. At the present time tbe road contemplates tbe construction of 55 miles of track, running north westerly from Reynard to the California-Nevada line, and will eventually be constructed into Surprise Valley. The company is capitalized at 800,000 in 8000 snares of the par value of $100. This Is certsinly a most favorable year to hold a good, old faBcioned agricultural fair. A fine display of products can be assembled and much useful information furnished to all visitors. Such displays can always be passed on and afterward used for other occasions. This really should be one step in the Agricultural College Ex tension work, as it gives an excellent opportunity for the farmers to com pare notes and study the results of the different varieties and methods of cropping. Dental Societies Extended Tbe State Dental Societies have organized district societies, Lakeview to affiliate with Klamath Falls. : Tbe obiect of these societies are many changing of ideas, discussing the best methods of serving the public and chiefly to foster a system of public school dental inspection. l)r. F. Westerfeld. of KIsmstb Fslls who cas been doing work quietly along these lines, has suggested to some of oar school authorities tha he would trv and get the dentists to devote part of tueir time gratis the first year and give the children a complete dental in spection, and that he hoped tbe public would see the great need and benefit of such an inspection, and next year to pay for the inspection. It Is simply appalling the way tbe teeth of the young are decaying and tbe astounding amount of ignorance about tbe teeth even among the most educated of the laity. It we go on as we have been a few generations will see us a disfigured race of physical degenerates. 20 POUND PARCELS NOW Continued from first page First zone Second Local Zone sone Weight rate rate rate 1 pound $0.05 $0.05 90.05 2 pounds .06 .06 .06 3 pounds .06 .07 . 07 4 pounds .07 .08 .08 5 pounds .07 .09 .09 6 pounds .08 .10 .10 7 pounds .08 .11 .11 8 pounds .09 .12 .12 9 pounds .09 .13 .13 10 pounds .10 .14 .14 11 pounds .10 , .15 .15 12 pounds .11 .16 .16 13 pounds .11 .17 .17 14 pounds .12 .18 .18 15 pounds .12 .19 .19 16 pounds .13 .20 .20 17 pounds .13 .21 .21 18 pounds .14 .22 .22 19 pounds .14 .23 .23 20 pounds .15 .24 .24 Tbe rate for local delivery applies Railroad Incorporated The Salt Lske Herald-Republican says that articles of incorporation for the Surprise Valley Kailway Company, We sell famous 1i I L'iiivtoi.jfliiiaimair fi rriAftt Wfa j B Tamous for their surety of re suit.
