sheep in Yreka. Caiforma. One rich
er who was in the sheep business on a
small si'nle lost 07 head out of a band
ot 9S. The cause of death was at Hrst
assigned to the eating of poisonous
plants and grasses, but on cutting up
one of the carcasses it was futid that
while the intestines and stomach up
Deared healthv, the liver was infested
with bug and worms. It in presumed
that these insects came from the roots
of those graces wbich grov in swampy
places and come to the surface in the
fall of the vear. An examination of
the area grazed by the sheep showed
no signs of any poisonous plants or
other substances.

SAYS MORSE CODE
IS OF IRISH ORIGIN
i
I Front The Irish .Vena
A heated discussion was brought
i about recently in Washington, ( D. C,
when I'rofesaor Jamea Money, of the
Archeulogical Society, stated that the
Mors: code by which messages are
flashed throughout the clvitiied world,
was not the invention of Samuel V. B.
Morse, but waa of Irish origin, Profes
sor Money declared that the liaelic dot-and-dash
alphabet, otherw ae known as
the dgem system, and In use as early
aa llfU, waa actually the basis of the
so-called Morse code. He atated fur
tner that his contention waa sustained
by records of the ancient Irish people
aa found In wood and atone carvings.
In summing up his pcech he declared:
"There were 17 letters in the Gaelic
alphabet and they t-.rgan with one dash,
went up to five dkt-hes, then from five
dashes down 10 one dash and then be
gan tho dots, very much the same as
the Morse alphabet used in tele
graphy."

hay r.ctir Morrill. We met Dave Me- i
AulilTu dc:vn here. and he think that
the Lava be ia are just it, winch they
no doubt are. I'lcttse got our mail, not
forgetting the Irish News, end send it
