just been called to the fact that Lake
county is without auy representative
of the district attorney's otiice.
It appears that D. V. Kuykendall,
of Klamath Falls, was elected to the
office for this ditrtct comprising the
couuties of Klamath and Lake. Jlis
home is in Klamath Falls, 100 miles
from Lakeview. It is a physical im
possibility for one man to attend to
the demands made upon the district
attorney's office for these counties of
such great area, and when distances
of travel are feo great, and the time
consumed in inakiDg trips ou official
business. Noting is more patent thau
that these two couuties .each should
have an attorney to attend to matters
that are liable at auy tixe to come,
before the district attorney's office, j
While this law does not equire that
the Incumbent of tne office shall
appoint a deputy, it Das been the
custom of former occupantd of the
office to do so, as a matter of public

vice preideut. Mr. iligsen is not so
well kuowu but Mr. Groves is knwon
as an able writer, orater ami locturtr.
It was Mr. Groves who at the last
election moved to make the vote for
President Koosevelt unanimous. He
is a Democrat, but. not of the wild
and wooly ft ripe.

of a second choice. Mr. Cake would
have received many second-choice
votes from the supported of Lowell,
Smith and Watson, while Mr. R jurne
would have received very' few. The

i-tate. It was a flght with liourne
against the Held, and the 'field votes
would have been distributed among
the field candidates for a secoud choice
and would not have been given to
liourne. Cake, presumably, would

Eastern Oregon both Smith and Low
