...CANDIDATES' COLUflN... C. MFTZKEW. itr and Publisher t i tin- t'ot (mprt l.atew,Orr .-wind-Ola Mmli-t. fin line rear, Ti:nS: 'six Months, 1.00 Three -nmh, .. 5'' Lakeview, Oregon, Mrch 26, 19U8 The County Sest Question More than a year rBed ftr the Lake Comity Court decided to build a new Court House at LakeTiew, aui two levies of taxes ha J been made to pay for it, the material bought and paid for. and contracts were let for the work, before the agitators of the North end announced their determi nation to remove the County Seat No people ever acted more disingeo aously than these fading agitators have, and we know there are numbers of fair minded men in the North who would not have waited so long in an non icing their intention to try to move the County Seat to Paisley, and who don't approve "f the action of those ho are leading the movment at tbis time. Tba conditions wil- compel the or ganization of a new county, composed of the Northen precincts of Lake and contiguous territory of adjoining counties. Tba vast amount of rich arable lands In that region, formerly supposed to be unproductive, arid desert, have been fonnd to grow good crops, and the great influx of new settlers in the two years last past clearly point to a new ooanty and, should the peo ple of Southern Lake array themselves against it with all their power they could not prevent it. Part of this land being in Crook, Harney and Klamath Counties, many of the new homes would be one hundred or more miles from their county seat, while some of thoee in Lake, even with the County seat at Paisley, would yet be seventy live miles away. It would be folly to think of preventing a new County when they have gained the re quired population, and that day is near at band, if the Silver Lake papers are not mislead, as to the rapidity of tba settlement of these lands.
