Henry Klippel, a pioneer of Jackson county, Oregon, died suddenly in Med ford on Nov. 2d, of heart disease. De ceased was the father L. P. Klippel of Lake county. He wa a prominent citi zen, having held numerous positions of trust during his lifetime. Mr. Klippel arrived in Jackson county in ISM. Politi cally he was an uncompromising demo crat. He had the reputation of being one of the most notable manipulators and managers of olitical affairs that Ja':kson county ever produced. Among the notable events in which lie figured was the memorable Hayes-Tilden presi dential election. He was one of the Tilden electors and it will be remember ed that Oregon cut quite a figure in set tling that contest. Mr. Klippel held the offices of sheriff and clerk of Jackson county, and held other important posi tions. He was nearly n years ol age and leaves a widow and five children be sides a large number of warm personal friends. THE WINTER ROUTE. To the East. Finally Cu pid w rought confusion among the pairs, and it became apparent that George Danner had lost his heart to Edith Liles, who returned his affection, while John Liles and Mrs. Danner had surreptitious ly exchanged hearts. When the mis chief liecame plain the husbands took a common sense view of the situation. Mutual divorces and remarriages were proposed and carried out. The former Mrs. Liles oecame Mrs. Danner ami the former Mrs. Danner changed her name to Lilea. It was a satisfactory and legal change. In effect the men traded w ive. This was two years ago. All went well until recently when Cupid, seeking fresh sport, reversed the spell. Old af fections were revived and asserted their power. The men wanted to trade back and the women were not unwilling. Again was held an amicable counsel. The divorce mill was once more set iu motion and the parties were (gain free. Two weddings followed in quick success ion, and it is again Mrs. Edith Liles and Mrs. Lizzie Danner. Liles is about (18 and I'anner 70 yearsold. Both couple; have grandchildren by their first niar raiges. Jumped on a Ten Penny Nail. The little daughter of J. N. Powell jumped on an inverted rake made of ten penny nails, and thrust one nail en tirely through her foot and a second one half way through.
