Lyle Fleetwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fleetwood and Thurlo Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burral Cole, both students at O.T.I. in Klamath Falls ariived Friday. Pvt. Earle Henness arr'ved by air at Portland, Saturday night, from Camp Gordon, Georgia. He was met at the Portland airpoit by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Henness and will be at home until after the first of the year. Sunday dinner guests at the Glen Henness home, in compliment to their son Eearie, were two other sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Clare Henness and Kandee and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Henness and son from Mehama. Mrs. Laura Joaquin has returned to her home in Gates to stay, after employment in San Jose, California foi the past seven months. Mrs. Joa quin says she prefers our Gates I weather, rain and all, in preference to the heat and fog of California. It is hard for us Oregonians to believe, but she insists that only two showers fell in the southern city in the seven months she was there and those of only 10 minutes duration. Joseph Bowes, accompanied by his mother, Mrs, Martha Bowes and Mrs. Mary Egglestrom drove to Portland Friday to attend the Christmas pio- gram at the school at which Mrs. Joseph Bowes is employed as teacher. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Struckmeier attended the funeral service for Fin est Kelly, in Albany Friday. Mr. Kelly, a life long friend of the Struckmeier family died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 15. He was a recent resident of Salem, having returned to the family home in Scio only two months ago. Mrs. W. S. Hudson was among Christmas shoppers in Salem Wednes day. She also visited members of her family, who reside there. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Levon re turned last Sunday from a two-week visit in San Fianeisco with Mr. Le von’s parents »nd many former friends. They report a pleasant drive both ways and perfect weather in the California city during their stay there. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fleetwood spent from Friday through Monday of last week visiting their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Beisell and two sons, in Gresham and at the home of Mr. Fleetwood’s cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Moored, in Vancouver, Wn. Mr. anil Mrs. Albert Millsap vis ited and shopped in Stayton Monday They visited at the home of their son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Klecker and family. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gordon arrived in Gates Thursday evening to spend the holidays at the home of Mr. Gordon's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Gordon. Gordon has just been dis charged from service in the Airforce. He has been stationed at Mather Field, California, for the past 18 months. Members of the Gates high school band, which is under the direction of Roy Shelton, of Salem, participated in a band concert with the school bands from Detroit, Clear Lake and Perrydale, with guest students frgm Salem, Mill City and Clear Lake. The concert was held Thtfrsday evening, December 17 in the gymnasium at the Perrydale school. Those taking part from Gates were Ellen Chance, Dona- lee Oliver, Roger Schaer, Wayne De vine, Alan Vale, David Moore, Dean Martig, Rodney Schaer, John Barn- hardt, Margaret Palmer, Danny Evans, Ann Marie Hirte, David Vale and Lois Evans. seerio V/e send you a bright note of cheer this Holiday.
