It's taken television—and specifi cally the telecasts of sports events from New York’s famous Madison Square Garden — to prove that women are just as interested in sports as men. A famous research organization recently took a poll based on at- home television audiences watching Garden telecasts sponsored by an instant coffee company over WPIX The results found 89 women view ing the sports shows as compared to 98 men — practically a 50-50 breakdown. Going a bit further, it developed that not only do mem bers of the fair sex sit before their television sets during sports tele casts, but they invariably do ao willingly and are able to follow and appreciate the finer points of the games. An interesting point not to be overlooked is that one of the Garden telecast sponsors is Instant Chase A Sanborn. The coffee com pany expected a good percentage of its sports televiewers to be made up of women, and this expectation has been thoroughly justified by the poll's findings. Whereas in the past we believed that the large contingent of fe males usually present at sports events were there mainly to dance attendance on their male escorts, if the results of this survey can be believed, the girls are usually present because they too enjoy etching sports.
