A postoffice key was stolen from

also the postoffice mail key. This key

will, therefore, spare no pains to ferret
out the guilty parties.
Mr. Villard was the best man for
Oregon that ever took a hand in its
laffairs. And it warms up rebellious
I blood in us to read this sort of stuff in
la webfoQt paper: “Villard has got
I some more German suckers with coin
at his back, and his health has fully
[restored. We hope Vill. will keep
laway from Oregon with booming
pcliemee.

any desire to swell his coffers, he has
inaugurated and is vigorously prose
cuting in person a scheme to establish
a competing line of telegraph that
shall put within the easy reach of
every ope the news of the world. He
has just left Portland for San Fran
cisco.
The Welcome says Senator Mitchell
has returned form Washington, after
a hard sessions fight in the interest of
Oregon. He received quite an ova
tion from his friends. Of his work
in the senate the following is given
by a Portlad paper: He is a member
of five committees, railroads, transpor
tation routes to the seaboard, claims,
mines and mining and library. He is
also chairman of a sub-committee on
transportation to the sea-bqard, whose
duty it is to, investigate and report on
the best means of overcoming ob
structions to navigation at The Dalles,
of the Columbia, whether by canal
and locks or ship railroad. His posi
tion as member on committees gives
him superior advantages to serve the
interests of his state and the entire
coast..
