Don’t you think we ought to kill the fatted calf and have a feast?” “Kill the calf,” growled the farmer, gruffly, “I don’t see what we want to jump onto the calf and kill him for. He isn’t to blame for what bap- pened 25 years ago.” The name of Hoti. Jesse Edwards is being favorably mentioned by his friends for the office of state senator from this county. We always think and speak of Jesse Edwards as “the father of Newberg,” and no one in that thriving town will gainsay the title. It properly belongs to him. Another thing we know of him: He has never been sparing of his time, labor and money to establish enter prises that would foster the growth of his home city, or that wu'.ld pro mote the welfare of the county and state. It is men of this class that deserve recognition in a public way, rather than the loafers and the bums and the pap-suckers. The Reporter is interested in seeing the very best men in the ranks placed in office. The party that does this will win. NEWBERG.
