There was a little gold excitement on
the streets Tuesday afternoon, as sev

At the passenger depot the Southern
Pacific is erecting what is called a sem
aphore. This located on the east side
of the track and will be used for dis
playing signals. During the day time
different colored "paddles” will be dis
played. The white one when in sight
is to tell tlie engineer that tlie track is
clear, while the red one warns him to
stop his train. At night colored lan
terns will be exhibited.
One of the most delightful social
events of the season was a parlor meet

Henderson, one day recently. It be
ing the time for the regular meeting of
the W. C. T. U., it was decided to hold
one of this kind as it is a new depart
ment of the work. The genial hostess
was appointed state superintendent at
their last convention and the grace and
dignity with which she presided at. the
first local meeting shows tier to tie fit
ted for so honorable a position. Mem
bers of the union and several invited
guests were present. A short program
suitable to the occasion was given, after
which ice cream and cake was served
and each one went away feeling it was
good to have been there.
