A terrible mistake occuied in the
shooting of the supposed Fete Olsen,
the murdmer oi Mrs. Lyons, at Bakers
field, California, last week. The man
killed, and supposed to be Olsen, was a
quiet sett ler named Seibert. Dispatches
from San Francisco state that expres
sions ol regret and indignation concern
ing the fatal mistake in Kern county in
the shooting of Michael 11. Seibert for
Fete Olsen, are heard whenever the
topic is mentioned. It is believed that
Seibert resided only a sl.oit time in
Napa county, as he was unknown to the
oldest residents. It is supposed lie
located pretty well up in tlie mountains,
but not above the grazing region. He
probably hud saved a little money,
knowing the animosity of cattle men
against “homestead inti miera,” and
believed they intended to dispossess
him.

Dispatches from Tucson Arizona state

o'clock p. m. Wednesday. No one was
injured, but considerable damage was

companied by a rumbling sound. Many
clocks were stopped in the city, and the
entire population fled to the streets

swayed like the mast of a ship in a tur

different points from three to four miles
apart. It was believed for some time
that.a volcano had burst out of the crest
ol the mountain. One towering peak,
known as Old Castle, a prominent, land-
maik from Tucson, has entirely disap
peared. The extent of the damage can-
mt lie told for several days. This was
the first earthquake ever experienced in
Tucson. The public school building
rocked to and fro like a cradle, ami some
of the plastering fell, creating the ut
most consternation among the scbollars.
School was at once dismissed for fear of
a rt petition of the shock. It lusted, ac
cording to the authority of a man who
claims to have timed it, just lour min
utes. One or two sligt vibrations have
since been felt. The movement of the
tremor was northweast. Shortly after
the earthquake a volcano broke out
twentv-two miles south of that place.
The sky is brilliantly illuminated.
