An act passed the last legislature redistrirtmg the «ale into senator ial and reprenenlarive di«rivU. apd fixing the number of senators and representatives in ^^e legislative assembly. The senate shall be composed of thirty members, and the house ai sixty members as here tofore. The ratio for the apparooct- meot cif the «ate into senatorial districts shall be one senator fee every six thousand five hundred and ninety-two of while pupnlalka or fraction thereof ^^ceeding ooe- hali in each senatorial district. Yamhill county constitutes the tenth senatorial district and is en titled to one senator. Dr. Walts bolds over the coming two years, therefore there will 6e no senator to elect from this «Minty this year. The representative districts shall be entitled to one representative ia every three thousand two hundred and ninety-^ of white population , and fraction thereof exceeding one- half The county of Yamhill con stitutes the eleventh., représenta tire district and is entitled to two repre sentatives. Yamhill and Tilla mook counties - constitute the twelfth representative district; which is entitled to one representa tive. By this apportionment we lose one senator and one hall of a representative. It is thought this rearrangement is favorable to the republicans, but one thing is oer-i _ tain' eastern Oregon has thus se cured and increased representation to which.,that section was justly en titled. and it may transpire that by virtue of this increased représenta-1 tion from democratic districts the next legislature may be given into the hands of the latter party._____ Keeps constantly on hand. ment at Furniture al every Notice for Publient is»«*. V > ’V Chief Justice Morrison R. Waite, of the United States supreme court, died at his residence in Washing- * ton, D. 0. Friday mornipg last. Mr. Waite was lorn in Connecti- cutt; removed to Ohio, settled in Toledo -in an early day and was a member of the legislature in 1849. He continually refused to accept nominations for different" official ¿psitions. preferring to devote his time to the practice of his chosen ; Ttprtrfnnifri^ His reputation as a lawyer was little known outside of 'OhiJr^when in 1874. President Grant nominated him for the office of chief justice. Jbe senate had already abused to confirm Geo. H. Williams and Caleb Cushing, and when the name of Morrison R. i Waite was presented the state of Ohio vouched for him and he was confirmed almost unanimously. His opinions have given general satis faction to the country. More busi ness has been done and more in tricate questions decided during his occupancy of this high position than in any other fourteen years in the history of our nation. Much speculation naturally arises as to whom President Cleve land will name as the successor of Judge Waite. There is probably not a democrat in the whole union but who would like to hare that honor conferred upon ex-Senator Allen G. Thurman, of Ohio, were it not the fact that be is beyond the retiring age. Who will be the next chief justice is at this time be yond conjecture, although several prominent men are mentioned as available. It is now currently reported that John P. Irish, of the San Francisco Alta, will stump this state for the democrats this year. He is a fine ,orgder and will, no doubt, convince many rvpuldicans of the their wavs. Antique Bedroom se B aluut Center ta Folding Bed 1<_ ° Spring Mat —------ " . BT Geo. W. .
