»w o 300 Attend Odd Fellows Sunday Picnic ♦ On Sunday, July 31, the Hood River Valley Odd Fellows and Re- bekahs held their annual picnic at Lo Ann Camp. The attendance was approximately 300, being from var ious sections of Oregon with some from Washington and other states. The Grand Lodge of Oregon was represented by Joseph T. Eckley, Grand Master, who made the address o f the day. The Grand Encamp ment was represented by Ed Pow- man, of Hillsboro, Grand Senior Warden, and Wm. Linklater, of Portland, G r a n d Junior Warden. Frank M. Sexton, The Dalles, Past Grand Master; Earl H. Shank, o f Hood River, Past Grand Patriarch; and Dora Sexton, of The Dalles, Past President of the Rebekah As sembly of Oregon were also intro duced and welcomed. After lunch variops athletic contests, consisting o f softball, horse shoe pitching, and tug of war entertained the visitors. Everyone reported a good time and expressed the hope that they could be present next year. A constant yellow glow was evident over the Washington hills, and long I narrow streaks of light extended sky-ward similar to the display of search lights shown in Portland’s recent Fleet Week. KEIR Hood River To Buy Juice From Dam Regular 25c Hood River will buy Bonneville power, according to a resolution passed by the city council Monday J night, which called for an applica tion to Bonneville Administrator J. D. Ross for 100 kilowatt-years of Bon neville current, to be used entirely I for municipal purposes, primarily for street lighting. The discussion at the council meet ing brought out that buying power from the Bonneville plant at $17.501 per kilowatt-year would make it pos sible for the city to have nearly | twice as much current for street [ lights. The city’s municipal plant would close down and the present lighting budget would be maintained at a cost of only $40 more a year than at present. The plant now | generates only 65 kilowatts. For some time a committee of the I council has been at work, looking into the feasibility of such a pur- [ chase. Recent studies have shown that the present municipal plant has not proved altogether satisfactory. Sup ply of water in the city in summer months has been inadequate to operate this plant and to provide for domestic and sprinkling needs. The plant, duo to its present location, has not been able to run to capacity and the wear on the pipe line feeding has been great, city officers re port. Under the proposed plans, the pay ing off of this plant would still con tinue, even though the power is to come from Bonneville and the small plant will be closed dow*n. The same budget can be maintained, due to additional revenue from lighting and heating the city hall, which is plan ned when the new current is avail able.
