Mrs. Wuner reported the purchase of six new table cloths and two new communion cloths for the church. A donation was sent to the Bandon, Oregon, Methodist Ladies Aid Soci ety to help them refurnish their Aid room, which was wiped out in the disastrous fire of last year. The social hour was in the order of a surprise handkerchief shower for the 77th birthday of the Aid president, Mrs. C. A. Brolliar. The huge birthday cake, given by Mrs. T. H. Harrison, was an important feature. The attractive luncheon served by the hostesses was planned in the traditional St. Patrick’ s day colors. Members and guests present included Mesdames C. A. Brolliar, Tom Cole and daughter Joyce, Willis Douglas, John Foulkes, T. H. Harri son, Wilbert Harrison, Burt Nelson, W. Saunders, R..J. Wuner, Bert Nel son; and the hostesses, Mrs. Smelt zer and daughters, Lois, Shirley and Florence. ♦ Rebekahs Entertain— Saturday night, March 19, the Cas- cadian Rebekah Lodge called a spec ial meeting to entertain the presi dent of the Rebekah Assembly, Mrs- Mae Jonas, and also to initiate three new members, Mrs. Margaret David son, Mrs. Carol Munkres and Miss Martha Wetzel. After the initiation the members enjoyed the lovely cake and ice cream served by the committee, Mrs. M. L. Morgan, Mrs. Silver Perras and Mrs. Roy Weeman. ♦ No-Host Dinner— The Cascade Lodge was the scene o f a No-Host Mexican Buffett din ner, preceding the Junior Prom last Friday night. Those who enjoyed the lovely af fair were the school teachers, Misses McRae, Wetzel, McLoed, Jeffries, Buche, and Mr. and Mrs. Elton Hat ton, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Langton, Mr. and Mrs. B. Weaver, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Vennewitz, Clayton Kyle, Donna Davidson and Mrs. Margaret Davidson. ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Joe Morris and two children, Sonny and Forrest, were Sunday evening dinner guests at the Lew Morgan home before they left for Walla Walla, where they will make their home. Mr. Warren Davidson of Cascade Lodge left Thursday by motor for Omaha on a short business trip. He expects to return some time next week. Mrs. Ray Abbott returned home Tuesday from a week’s visit at Ar lington. Mr. Lee Murray started tc work Monday at The Dalles, in charge of a crew of Bonneville electricians, in stalling power lines from The Dalles east. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Kuehl of Van couver were guests of Ted Hauser at the Lakeside Hotel over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Tubbs left for Port land last Saturday to make their home. Mr. Tubbs was transferred there. He has been the resident en- ginerr for the construction company that are raising the Bridge of the Gods. Mr. Lew Morgan has been confined to bed the past few days with the flu. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nix and their house guest, Clarence Easley of Portland, made a business trip to Stevenson Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Morgan and their guest, Mrs. Mae Jonas, drove to Bonneville Sunday to inspect the dam. Miss Lena Collins arrived from Corvallis Friday night and spent un til Sunday visiting friends and rela tives. Mr. and Mrs. Steele, who lived in Lakeview addition, left Sunday for New York, where they have employ ment. Mrs. Hendricks of Portland arrived Saturday and will spend a few days as guest of Mr. and Mrs. August Peterson. A1 Matson left last week for Oak Ridge, Ore., where he is employed as shovel runner. Miss Marie Nelson of Washougal spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Capt. Nelson, and also attended lodge Saturday night. Louis Vallen spent Monday night and Tuesday in Portland on a bus iness trip. Mrs. J. D. Kyle and son Clayton and Jimmy Smith drove to Hood River Sunday afternoon and attend ed a show. reported 3.3 inches of snow yester day. Last Friday the heavens opened up and let forth a tremendous down pour of rain. Residents along Odell Creek, just north of Odell, stated that it was the highest they had ever seen the creek and it was the most water they had seen arrive in that section of the Hood River Valley in many a year. Many minor slides kept county highway crews busy keeping thor oughfares open. No serious slides were reported on county roads, al though they were covered with water in several sections. Spring, which according to the big books, officially arrived here Monday did not meet with a very warm re ception ; in fact the local elements gave spring a very cold and wet home-coming. Monday night it started snowing at Parkdale and by last night 11 inches was reported with the snow begin ning to turn to rain. At the lower valley weather station, W. B. Ross, Bonneville power administrator, said here that a 20-mile test line to run from Bon neville dam will be constructed this summer to “ prove out" experiments which will save as much as $9000 per mile in construction of transmis sion lines. Ross said electrical engineers have conducted test line experiments for years and will substitute direct for alternating current and will employ two wires instead of six. Inexpensive poles will be used, Ross said. The test line will carry only direct current, Ross said, and will be trans formed into alternating current at the receiving end.
