The principal purpose of this school is the training of officers for the na vy, but it is not essential that grad uates should make this a career ex cept when called upon by the nation in times of necessity. Each student is given $780 a year from the date of admission until graduation after a four-year course. Applicants must not be less than 16 nor more than 20 years of age and must be boys in fine physical condition, especially as to eyesight. Only those in upper ranks of high school students could pass the examinations. I shall ask the civil service to give examinations in October of the cur rent year. From the list they estab lish, I shall select one principal and three alternates for each one of the three vacancies for my district. The three successful candidates will be required to pass an academy exami nation in February or April of 1938. Boys who are interested should send to me for circular of ■ regula tions, giving sample examinations. WALTER M. PTERCE, M. C. Ladies’ Aid Enjoy Afternoon’s Program The Ladies’ Aid entertained at “ Grandma” Brolliar's Wednesday af ternoon. Mrs. Maude Brolliar and Mrs. Bess Harrington served lunch. Those present were Mesdames R. J. Wuner, C. Chapman, Charles Nelson, W. T. Tharp, May Elilott, Jones, L. G. Weaver, Vic Wigren, and W. E. Cox of Walla Walla and Rev. L. G. Weaver. Nell Rae Brolliar enter tained the ladies with a song. WHAT THIRTEEN C H R O N I C L E Attempted Climb Of Hood Unsuccessful A strong wind, rain and fog on the higher slopes resulted in three Yak ima youths, Richard Freer, John Ri ley, and Ed Rankin, turning back at an elevation of approximately 8500 feet in an attempted climb of Mount Hood last Sunday. If these three had scaled Hood this time, it would have been their third ascent and their 17th major climb of Northwest peaks. After the un successful attempt they visited with Freer's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Lisle Sperry and his brother, Blaine, all of Trout creek. W hen it rains.... W hen it,s hot....
