Mrs. Emma McClure received news from California of the death of her grandson. Max Evans . Death was caused by accidental drowning. Max was well known to the Mosier people, having spent his childhood days here. Mrs. Clyde Brown was In The Dalles Monday. Mrs. ‘A. E. Henshaw and daughter, Rosa. left Friday to spend the week at Aberdeen. Wash. Mr. and Mrs. James Camp and Mrs. Hattie Bailey and son, Jesse, were In The Dalles Monday. The boys stayed all night at Tygh journeying to Maupin the next day where they were Joined by the girls' team. There at Maupin the boys were beaten by a score of fl to lfl. Otjr girls were victor ins by a score of Wl to 11. The two games at Maupin officially ended «the basketball season. Our girls' team having won all th* games they played in Wasco county is the champion team and is to he award ed the pennant offered by the County Athlettc association. 1atst Tuesday the annnal basketball banquet was given for all the boys and girls who had played In the basketball gnmes this year. Miller and How ard went to Portland on Saturday. Howard went on to Salem. Miss Mar jorie was touring with the Girls' Glee dub of Willamette University, and so was not at home for vacation. King Benton, Jr., was surprised on his birthday by a visit from a group of high school friends. Troop 81, Boy Scouts, won second place in the Scoot tournament in the high school gymhaslnm last Friday. The White Rai mon troop was Mt point ahead of them. This troop, under the leadership of Mr. Garber, has several West Side boys among Its members. Girls at home from Oregon State normal« school are the Misses Mildred Hayes, Evelyn Lakin and Tnanlta Glaae. lfr. and Mrs. Alfred Tucker of Port ltrtid are moving into the house just vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Arnold. The fountain will coat 1100. lhe board authorized Superintendent Breckenridge to attend the annual con vention of the Inland Empire Teachers association to be held at Hpokane soon. GOLF NEWS In one month's time, 444 golfers have holed out in one in the "flame hole” of the Halemaumau course and are now members of the organiation known as the World's Grandest Hole-In-One club A large number of the hole-in-one-erx were admittedly poor golfers and some were even novices, the high record Tor accuracy lieing explained by the fact that the "grandest hole" Is unique in that it is "only” a little more than a half a mile in diameter and 1®IO feet deep. The hole Is also famous as the palace home of Madame Pele, Hawaiian Fire Goddess.
