Clark. A good sermon was enjoyed by

The Christian Endeavor held a social
in the basement of the church Friday
evening. A good time was reported by
those present.
Miss Alice Liebtrau, of The Dalles,
met with the Girl Reserve corps Sat
urday afternoon. This was the first
meeting Since the Hummer vacation.
Another meeting will be held in two
weeks and we hope to have all present.
Ferdinand Strausa, with a party of
Boy Scouts from Hood River, hiked to
Wahtum lake Saturday, returning Sun
day.

situation of these children. They are
being educated hi the public schools
and are fast ooalinilating American
ideals and language our chlldreu,

guage from hearing their purents talk,
but just as soon ax they go to school
they begin to adopt the American lan
guage for their own use. There are
some Japan«* born in the United
States, now grown men and women,
who do not understand Japanese.
“The vast ipajorlty of these children
are destined to live their lives in the
United States, many of them in Hood
River county. The Constitution of the
United state« Mys they are Americans,
and now Japan m . vk they are Ameri
cana, and ao their parents have decided
to accept the inevitable and do all they
can to have them brought up aa Ameri
can« by teaching and by contact with
other Americana.
“In order to bring alxuit a better
understanding bat ween whites and Jap
anese, th« community hall la being
projected. It will be for purely Jap
anese meeting«. But the white p«*ople
will be invited, and if they desire they
may have the hall for tbelr own meet
ings and amusement*
"During the summer months a sum-
mer school may* be conducted in the

the Japanese children American ideals.
The big idea back of the movement is
to teach our children that they are
Americans and to eliminate the Ideas
