APPLES—PEARS SOUTH BOUND The Twentieth Century grocery which opened la Hood River tw* years ago last Septeipber Is one of a chain of thirty one stores operated throughout the state including one at Vancouver, Washington. This concern has had a most re markable growth which, according to Mr. D. B. Cramer, the local manager, is predicated by the principle of giving predicated by the principle of giving the consumer the best merchandise ob tainable at the lowest possible prices. Because of their immense purchasing power the Twentieth Century stores not only bny at rock bottom prices but are in a position to select their goods from the best markets in all part* of the country, thus giving their patrons the benefit of both quality and price. He states further that the Twentieth Century store* are not "cut rate” stores but are founded on the belief that there are thousands of people who prefer to pay cash and carry their groceries home, thereby paying themselves for the service instead of pnying the mer chant. In this way their patrons save practically ten per cent which is equi valent to getting their groceries free over one month in each year. Worth while isn’t it? To prove that this firm operates the kind of steres the public wants, Mr. Cramer point* to the fact that they started with one store less than nine years ago, and are now operating thir ty-one, making it necessary to move into their new warehouse, in Portland, which will be ready next month. This warehouse has a ground floor space of over twenty thousand square feet. Here the company will have trackage I k » th In front and rear, thus reducing their exeiiense in handling goods, which will in turn be banded on to the consu mer. Mr. Cramer concludes, “while the Twentieth Century stores do not claim to have the lowest prices on everything, their general low average prices on quality merchandise are such as meet with the approval of the keenest buy ers.” I = No. » TWENTIETH CENTURY IS GOING FORWARD Guaranteed MARK KVANDE Phone 3584 [ I. prepared to do any work In th. vawriu. ary fin«.
