NATIONAL APPLE WEEK IS NEAR The International Apple Shippers Association has launched a campaign for the observance of National Apple Week which will begin Hallow'en and end November 7. Special local chair men or committees have been appointed for practically every distributing and originating market. Chairmen of com mittees are to create such further or ganizations as may be necessary, raise their own funds from any sources available and adopt such plans as they desire. The association offers four silver trophies for the best observances, one to cities of 100.000 to 500,000, another to cities of 100,000 to 300,000, the third to cities of 500,000, and the fourth to cities of a population under 100,000. Final reports of all celebrations should be filed with the secretary of the asso ciation. These reports will be passed upon by a board of judges to be ap pointed by the president and the awards made. The association is following the plans of 1920 which excelled all pre vious observances and which were one of the greatest single factors in the consumption of the largest commercial crop then recorded. Each . locality is left to develop the type or observance suited to it CAPT. VAN HORN TO ATTEND ARMY SCHOOL Edw. W. The Hood River High School football team in the fourth game of the season on Gibson field Friday afternoon .de feated Stevengon High by a , score of 39 to 0. The local team has not been scored on this season. Since the first game several weeks ago with Lincoln High, of Portland, which was defeated by 6 to 0, the Hood River . boys, who are coached by H. G. Keeney, former Pennsylvania State player, have shown steady improvement. Tbey now put up a well nigh perfect interference, and the Stevenson players, while as heavy or heavier than the local aggregation, were unable to stop them on end run The Hood River boys, too, made good gains on line bucks. The feature of Stevenson's playing was short forward passes. Tbey were successful at such tactics and made their chief gains in this way. Indeed, by a forward pass they placed the ball directly in front of their opponent's goal pot and might have scored with a drop kick bad not time been called. Hood River shows a weakness in ef forts at forward passes. While Pat Slavens, tossing, and Clif Greene, re ceiving, made two sensational gains wtih long passes, the local boys invar iably failed to connect on passes. Slavens and Greene were stars of the playing Friday, in that they made all of the . scores. All of the local players showed good form and that they had gained much new knowledge of the fine points of the game the past two weeks. Robert iiee, an Indian, was one of Stevenson's . best men in the rear field. The Stevenson c- boys appear of excellent material. Their greatest defect was a lack of speed. Friday game brought out a heavy attendance of town's people, and1 the visitors bad a fair sized delegation of student rooters here. The line up of the two teams was as follows: Stevenson Hood River Crane 1 C Greene, Epping Butler re G. Greene, Mills Kepner It Roberts Sawyer I g Bob Wilbur A.Crane rg Iseel Meyer c Thomson, Page Ahola q Ford, C. Greene Lee - I Slavens Shields, Ziegler 1 h Corwin, Cram, ana KODeris Aalvic t h Stewart Referees were Doyle and Weber. 'In what way are Chamberlain's Tablets superior to the ordinary cathartic and liver pills? Our answer is, they are easier and more pleasant to take and their effect is so gentle that one hardly realizes that it is produced by a medi cine. Then, they not only move the bowels but improve the appetite and strengthen the digestion.
