Mr. Crosby Writes of Potatoes Hampton Falls, N. H., Oct. 28, 1921. Editor Glacier: A few lines more to my friends in Hood River. I am sure having the time of my life. 1 find things very interesting in this part of the United States as 1 travel. 1 left Brooks tor liangor by auto at 8.30 p. m. and arrived at Bangor about p. m. Stopped at Bangor one night ind nrrived at Sherman Mills in time for a good warm dinner at my old friend's, J. M. Darling. 1 was somewhat surprised to find such a fine farming country in Aroos took county. In some ways it reminds me of Hood River inasmuch as nearly everybody talks potatoes instead of ap ples. It is a great potato country ; they plant quite an acreage, all the way from 10 to 200 acres. They have a good crop of late potatoes this year, averaging around 150 barrels per acre and a fine grade. 1 was somewhat surprised at the price they hold their farms here. As we traveled through the.farming country, I asked my friend what.they valued their farms at. He pointed out several farms that had been sold from IZO.UUU to $00,000, trom 200 to 300 acres to the farm. 1 am sending a clipping from a Bos ton paper marked, "Cider Apples are now Selling at $18" at Brooks. What is the matter with Brooks, or should i have said Hood River? As ever your humble servant, J. R. Crosby. Flaming Car Causes Sensation Tom Brady, driving a motor truck laden with apples, created a sensation one day last week as he drifted with nonchalance down the steep grades of the city s business streets, the brake ining of one of his rear wheels blaz ing merrily, reuesirians snouted in vain at the driver. Finally a motorist in a small runabout sped ahead and driving alongside the flaming car ap prised the surprised driver of his pre dicament. A fire extinguisher from another truck was commissioned, and the (lames were soon put out. Long Distance Hiker Calls Here .lameH Abby Hill, who in nearly 7(1 years old and who attracted attention here by his Howin white hair, arrived here last week dn a walking tour from his home at berkeley, Calif., to Kast port. Me. "My trip is bein made solely for health," says Mr. Hill. "1 am staR ing no spectacular stunta and seeking no advertising. I have set no time limit and am making no wagers." Mr. Hill called on C. C. Crew, sec retary of the Commercial club, whom he asked for a letter to the secretary of the Commercial club at Hoods Mill, Md. Hon Not to Take Cold Some porgons'are subject to frequent colds, while others seldom, if ever, have a cold. You will find that the latter take good care of themselves. They take a shower or cold sponge bath every day in a warm room, avoid over heated rooms, sleep with awin dow oien or partly open, avoid excess es, ovr eating, becoming over heated and then chilled and getting the feet wet. Then, when they feel the first indication of a cold, they take Cham berlain's t ough Kemedy without delay and it is soon over. Man Sentenced for Forgery Sheriff Johnson left Thursday for Salem with Geo. Edwards, sentenced to 122 months in the enitentiaryJon a i-harge of forging checks. Kdwards, posing here as having a contract for work on the Highway, purchased goods from grocers and meat merchants. The grand jury returned a no Wue bill in the case of Andrew Imrie, roUM man held for appropriating! the automobile of William Kuach, Mt. Hood rancher, recently. The prose cuting witness did not appear at the hearing. HAPPY WOMEN I'lent) of Ihrm In Hood ItUrr and tiiHid lt-aon for It Weuldn't'aiiv woman be happy.
