WEDDINGS HAG DAY Tuesday was Flag Day. The lack oi flags shows how apathetic we are here in America. Most of us in Hi '! Rivet forgot that it was a day for celebration and paying honor to I he nation's emblem. Not a flag was flown in the city in tin morning. It was well on toward noon before some of the more thoughtful of us discovered our oversight, and Old (.-lory was released to the brejzes. We reprint a recent utterance of the late F. W. Galbraith. .J i ., national com mander of the American Legion. It Mill make you consider the Flag with more reveranee. "Flags are like people; they are full of personality, endowed with character istics, tradition! and faults. "These qualities flags borrow from the nations they represent, the peoples over whom they wave. "Our flag wsj born when the nation was an infant. The breeze that lirst rippled its starry folds brought whisper ings of troubled events, violence and bloodshed. Hut our flag UvM on, to see the nation live, grow ami prosper. Our flag has been carried into many hntlles, but never on the side oi Conquest It has known grave dangers, but never has been sullied by a national shame. ,,This flag that ripples in the wind today is worthy of our reverences, lie cause we of this nation have striven and always must strive to keep our ii'eals lofty. Today we will pledge, firm pur. pose to serve it. Our pledge, made to day and acted every day, will keep the Stars and Btripes glorious." Farri'H-Mooney The wedding of Harry W. Farrell and Miss Dorothy A.-Mooney, of Jer sey City, occjrred yesterday at ni. Mary's Cathi lie church. Key. Father Thomas, the pastor, said the nuptial mass. The wedding came as a sur prise to Mr. Farrell's friends. Indeod, he and Miss Mi may I ad not planned on soearly a wedding, but the latter, accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mooney, oi. a vacation trip through the Northwest stopped at Hood Kiver, and the wedding plans were hastened. The bride has been assistant cashier at the New York office of the Erie R. K. Co. Mr. Far rell met her year before last while calling at the office on fruit matters. The groom is a great war veteran. Mr. Farrell was accompanied by William Sylvester. Mrs. Van W. Glad den accompanied the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Farrell iiave left on a short hon eymoon trip. Copper-llenkle Friends of the couple have just re ceived news oi the wedding at Bend, last Saturday, of Carl C, Copper, son of Mr. and Mrs. E, .1. Copper, and Miss Melba Hi nkle, daughter of Mrs. Charlotte Henkle, of Bend, The wedding- occurred at the Mend Presbyterian church. Mr. and Mrs. ("upper have ar rived here to make their home. THK COMING FAIR Plttl are under way for a real coun ty fair here in September. The fair board, its members giving of their time, enterprise and energy, are de termined that exhibits will be repre sentative. Clean, wholesome amuse ments are going to be provided for the children. It will be a gala event with a carnival spirit in the air and, at the same time the exhibits will have an educational value. Why not suggest to our Portland friends, who so often visit Hood Kiver, that a trip to the fair will be one worth their while. If we can just get it across to them, we believe that 1'ortland .will turn out big for the an nual fairjn September.
