We wish to ex press our deep appreciation of the ef forts which you and your associates of the Hood River Commercial Club put iortn to mane our visit so enjoyable. "The apples with which you pre sented us at Hood River were grate fully received by the party and were disposed ol rapiidy. 1 can assure you that they were not a drug on the mar ket. We shall remember Hood River apples with much pleasure. It is our hope that we may have the pleasure sometime of reciprocating in part for the splendid hospitality extended to us and which made our visit to Hood River so pleasant. We hone you will convey to your fellow associates our sincere thanks for what your people did for us." Commenting on receipt of the letter, Mr. Frcdricy cays : "This simply shows what can be ac complished by the Commercial Club in the way of advertising and promoting that feeling of "Goodfellowship" for Hood River in every section of the world. The coming summer there will be several large parties visit our city and valley and we must get ready for them, every member of the club should constitute himself a greeter and show the visitors a.me attention. It will pay big. 1 am striving to Jijet the mem bership of the Commercial Club up to 1000 or more. This will give the club funds to work with and do away with the necessity of a committee out and panning citizens to raise funds. Will you assist in the drive for new mem bers? There is a large party due here in April, another in June and another in July. Lets get busy. " Jlj RS. J. M. "1 suffered from nervous nrostration and was so weak that I could not even 1 iiKIDGE COMPANY IS SUING RAIL LINE A sequel to a wreck last fall, when a rail auto of the Mt. Hood R. R. Co. collided with a steam locomotive being used by a crew of the Portland Bridge Co. engaged in building a bridge across the bast 1-ork of Hood River, the bridge company has brought suit against the rail line to collect 84,200, claimed as the contract price of the bridge, 8486.87, expenses in connection with the contract, and $29.26, the cost, according to the complaint, of clearing up after the wreck. The complaint alleges that the crew of the construc tion train was operating under instruc tions of the rail line. On petition of ti e rail concern the case has been transferred to the United States district court at Fort- land. While no answer has been filed here, officials of the rail line declare mm uie wreca, wnicn resulted m heavy costs to the company in settle ments of claims of the rail auto and of damage to equipment, resulted from carelessness of employes of the bridge crew. The case was heard in Port land yesterday. Correct Report on Wreck Traffic Officer Vernon Murray, who Sunday before last found the blood -pattered wreck of a motorcycle side car of the Highway near Wyeth, last Saturday received a correct report of the accident from O. II. Thompson, a Victim of the wreck. The latter writes : "The. machine belongs to my broth er, Theodore Thompson, 5(i8 E. Pine St., Portland, who with myself was re turning from Hood River to Portland when the side car became detached. We were traveling about 20 miles an hour. The accident threw us into a barbed wire fence. I was driving the car and my brother was in the side car. He sustained a broken foot and his hands were badly cut. My face was gashed by the barbed wire from the forehead to the chin. This explains all the blood found on the wreck. sweep the,noor and during the day would have to lie down Jf.njr or five times. Newell, who has just returned from the Yakima Valley, where he spent several weeks studying irriga tion systems, will begin at once super vision of placing the Heights irrigat ing system of the Fanners' Irrigating Co. in low pressure concrete pipes of 10 inches in diameter. A total of 2,900 feet of pipe will be laid. The cost of the work will reach about $2,000. Fifty Heights residents use tha Farm ers' Company's water for irrigation.
