HOOD RIVER GLACIER, THURSDAY, MARCH 24, 1921 RECREATION FOR BOYS IS PLANNED Hood River, according to plans just announced "by Riverside church, will take a lead the coming summer among Northwestern small towns for recrea tional activity among growing hoys. Rev. Buddy, at the meeting of the Commercial club Monday night, itated that the organization, which will in vite participation from all boys of the community, whatever may be their religious denomination, had seen red C. C. Newhouse as recreational direc tor. Boys from Scout age down to seven years will be included in the ac tivities, which comprehend plans for hikes, camping swimming and neigh borhood baseball. Mr. Bodily stated that an anonymous citizen had offered the boys the free use of a 10-acre wooded tract near the city. The youths will be free to de velop the property and to build a club house. While an early sale of the place is not anticipated, the owner as sures the boys, should such a contin gency arise, that be will repav them for their work and investment in a clubhouse. Mr. Boddy says the plans call for a permanent maintenance of the summer recreational organization for boys. The organization will be financed through a fund raised from parents and other interested parties. CLAIM IS PAID TO MRS. CHARTRAW Mrs. Sarah J. Chartraw, who was recently found not guilty by a jury of charges of fraudulently trying to se cure payment of claims on a fire insur ance policy, has just received the full amount of her claim, an approximate $650 from the dmpany. Mrs. Char traw occupied a small dwelling burned in January, lnose wno nave tuaiM the case, declared that she was the victim of suapicoua circumstances. Her attorney, Geo. R. Wilbur, de clared, rollowintr ner acquniai &y a jury, that she deserved a full vindica tion at the hands of the public. He declared that suit would be brought for recovery of the insurance claim. The draft was paid, however, without litigation. Old neighbors of Mrs. Chartraw in Idaho, seeing an account of her trouble, wrote offering their financial aid. A Tyoung attorney, of the old home towan whose father had been at torney for the Chartraw family, wrote fere offering to come and take charge of her case without fee. FORD Trucks CLUB TO HONOR SCHOOL CONTESTANTS The Commercial Club will entertain tns three. winners of a eountywide ora torical and declamatory contest of school children, to be held here April 22 at the hiirh school auditorium, at a luncheon. E. W. Bhge, J. W. West and J. M. Culbertson were appointed by President Fredricy as a committee to see that the youngsters arc given the best entertainment the city can afford. The Commercial Club has also ex tended an invitation to the winners of the contest to deliver their orations and declamations before the club. McCullagh Denies Rumor C. W. McCullagh, who will retire April 1 as sales manager of the Apple Growers Associaton, declares as erron eous rumors to the effect that he has been employed at a salary of $10. w per year by the Northwestern Fruit Exchange. The rumor had become current here, following a visit of J. F. Sugrue, prominent official of the Se attle fruit sales concern. Mr. McCul lagh declares, however, that no negoti ations between, himself and any concern have been closed. .
