The men of the congre gation served a dinner in the church parlors to more than 2(M). F. E. Skin ner was chief cook. His menu was: Fruit salad, roast prime ribs of beef, creamed potatoes and Krvy, sweet potaoes, scalloped tomiitoes. coffee and ice cream. The following men worked for several davs decorating the church i parlors and preparing for the dinner: Geo. If. Galloway. I. R. Acbewn, I). L. Pierson, W. H. McClain. J. H. Jeff rey, H. M. Cummins, A. H. Berry, C. K.Benton. W. T. Trice. The list of waiters included: C. H. Vaughan, Frank A. ("ram. F. 0. Blanchar, Les lie Butkr and Truman Butler. A feature of the evening's entertain ment was provided by the high school faculty quartet, composed of A. M. Cannon, E. N. Fleisehman, B. If. Conkle end R. C. Goodman. They were accompanied by Mrs. C. H. Hen ney. At B business meeting, C. K. Benton and (). L. Walter were elected to the hoard of trustees to succeed J. H. Jeff rey and I,. h. lait. Mrs. F 0. Blan char was elected superintendent of the Sunday school. NEW CITY HALL IS NEARLY READY Hood River's new citv hall, which will house quarters for the Volunteer Fire Department and a comfort station j for visiting motorists, as well as a I prison for city oifenders, will lie ready for occupancy soon after the first of I the year. The members of the fire de j partment expect to celebrate the open I ing of the new building by receipt of a new motor uriven nre engine, the ap paratus has already been ordered at a cost of approximately $18,000. The new building, two stories in height, is built of hollow tile. The front is faced with brick. The Bald win & Swope Construction Co. designed anu erected the building. LAWRENCE HERSHNER DIES IN PORTLAND The sn6 news of the death, at the Good Samaritan hospital. Portland, of Lawrence Hershner last Friday, came as a shock to his many Hood River friends. Mr. Hershner, son of Rev. and Mrs. J. L. Hershner, failed to rally from an operation performed last Wed nesday, lie had been making a brave fight for several years against attacks O! a serious illness. Mr. Hershner, aged 24, was a gradu ate of the local high school, and for three years he was a student at the University of Oregon. He was prom inent in scholastic and intercollegiate activities, a young man of great prom ise. In addition to his parents Mr. Hershner is survived by a brother and two sisters: Harold and Helen Hersh ner, and Mrs. Crawford C. Lemmon, of Medford. Mrs. Lemmon is recovering from a recent severe operation. I' uncial services were held at River side cnurcn at 1 o clock Sunday atler noon, Rev. W. H. Boddy ofiiciating. Interment followed at ldlewilde ceme tery. Ritualistic services were ob served at the grave by members of the Masonic Lodge. M. W. A.
