I'hone ire. al.tf orders at Ar-a.'itf Why the Voters of Hood River should support the amendments to the City charter at the Special Election, May 14th, 1920: This town has been in luck in regards to a a large fire for years. Other towns have suffer ed great losses in last few years, so let us be ready to combat with this great fiend at all times. We have in this town at present time too many valuable pieces of property to have them wiped out with this great evil in a few hours' time what took years to build. At present time our equipment is not sufficient to combat a fire ot any size, and if fire is small we destroy more with water than what is destroyed by fire. Do you know that the water pressure in this town is: only 6 lbs. at High School, our best school building in town; also only 14 lbs. at Park street and Coe Primary. Think what this means to have our schools with protection like this. As proved in other towns such as Portland, Corvallis, Albany, Bend and a few others over 50 of fires are put out with chemicals, because they are able to be at fire before it has much of a start. We have four schools, six churches, two large hotels, six rooming houses, eleven garages, three livery stables, two picture shows, about seventy live places of business, 600 residences, three lum ber yards, one flour mill, spray plant. Largest cold storage plants in northwest. Largest Vinegar works west Mississippi River. So let us give them better protection from lire. HOOD RIVER VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT. Vote for o00 x yes. 302-x-yes.
