I GLACIAL GEVSEKS SPOUT FROM ELIOT i Guests at Cloud Cap Inn were privi j leged last week to see the spectacular ' phenomena of glacial geyers. As a re- suit of the early week warm days, i which sent great volumes of water i pouring down from the snowbanks on the peak and ate away the surface ol the great ice fields, the force of com pressed air blew great holes in Eliot (lacier and sent the pent up floods spouting skyward hundreds of feet in to the air. The water and air forced their way through the ice barrier with an explosion. that Bounded like cannon ailing. Among the guests at the mile high hostt ly who witnessed the grand spec tacle were Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Sun day, who had been spending the week on hikes in the vicinity of the Inn. Mr. Sunday declares that he has im bibed enough inspiration and stored up enough pep to last him for another season's sermons. KEIR SMITH BLOCK RELIABLE DRUGGIST G39 HYRTLEWOOD TO BE SEEN AT FRANZ' Hood River people w ill soon view an , exhibition of furniture made from Coos county's famed nnrtlewood. J. j Mende, who with his wife has arrived here from South Bend for a visit with his daughter, Mrs. Hugh G. Ball, is planning a display of mvrtlewood furn- j iture at the Franz store. Mr. Ilende, who now controls prac-; tically alt of the Coos county myrtle J timber, and that means more than half1 of the world's supply, is the only man ufacturer who has ever made a success of working myrtlewood into furniture. The wood, it has been proven, cannot be used in solid form because of the work of worms. Mr. Mende is the only one who has ever been able to produce a cement that will hold myrtlewood veneer. Worms, it is said, do not work the veneered product. Mr. Mende's veneered creation are declared a dur able as solid wood. Mr. Mende, after years as a cabinet maker, retired to ranching near South Bend, and experimented with the beautiful wood during leisure hours from ranch work. As a bridal present to his daughter he presented her with a full drawing room set of myrtlewood furniture, including a magnificent pi ano case. SMOKING AT DANCES IS UNDER BAN lieo. W. Stokes, who with Gilbert i W. Allen is here from Salem engaged in a tire survey of Hood River, has warned owners of halls used for dances that the state tire marshal's office w ill prohibit future functions unless pro miscuous smoking is prohibited in the buildings. Mr. Stokes and Mr. Allen, while investigating a large ball room! Friday found numerous "snipes" along: wall railings and moulding and on win-; dovv sills and bannisters. The men declare such a practice as dangerous as would be that of leaving hand gren ades around a public structure. The visiting experts have secured the cooperation of owners of public buildings, and, w here special smoking rooms, equipped with cuspidors, are not provided, smoking will be prohib ited.
