Mr. I'delius, of Odell, and Mr. Jak k 11, of Oak drove, have closed a deal whereby they become owners of the Charles Sommerville trai t, which con sists of 1H acres apple orchard Hnd about four arces pears. This was orig inally a part of the Cooper & Walter property purchased from them by ('has. Sommerville, of Portland. Esti mates place the probable erop for the ensuing season at a good tiuure. W. H. Hucher has sold his property ne;,r Summit to I,. 1!. 1'eddicord, of Kranktoii. The tract of ten acres has yielded abundantly under Mr. lim ber's management. Mr. Hucher will not leave Odell, as he holds leases on prop orty near that which he sold and will continue the management of these properties until the expiration of leaf es. Mrs. Henney, director of music in the schools of (Idell, is devoting much time to practice necessary for a suc cessful commencement program. Mrs. J. VV. Mr. Franz had purchased a Ford truck sometime ago, hut owing to the condition of his private road thought it impossible to drive it, but upon undertaking it the car went up the hill, thn ugh a newly filled road bed, and saved the day for the waiting patrons. The bora ; is very sick at this writing. S. M. Blowers, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Blowers and children and Mrs. W. E. Sheets, of Portland, came up over the Highway Sunday and spent the day with the Nickelsen's at Alder Brook. Mr. and Mrs. T. I). Calkins enter tained the members of their respective families at dinner last Sunday. The Waite place again changed hands J last week. We undtrstand the new owner comes from Trout Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Wythers and daughters will 1 go back to their old home in Nebraska. Robert Gairabrant went to 1'al.ota hist week, where he will engage in business with his brother, Harry. Mrs. Win. J. Wollam. and family re turned to her home Thursday. Mrs. Comstock and son spent Mon day at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Barker. County Surveyor Cruikshank is sur veying the land owned by W. M. Stautl'er and establishing the corner on his and W. (1. Somerville's ranches. Mrs. Sarah Davis and grandson, Al len Davis, spent the past week at her ranch home. Miss Louise Forry spent Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Far-rcll. The Belmont W. F. M. S. met last I Wednesday at the home of Mrs. J. H. j Forden. J. R. Forden has purchased l.r acres of improved land from J. W. Anderson. The newly purchased ranch is in bear ing orchaid and joins the ranch home of the Fordens on the north, making them lih acres of orchard. The Parent Teacher meeting at Bar rett school last Friday evening was very well attended. A program of readings, recitations and songs was given by the pupils. Scout Master Cruikshank, of Hood River, gave a vey interesting talk on the Scout movement and some of his Scouts gave us some insight of the work done by the boys. It certainly is a splendid training for the growing boy. Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Aitken went to the ranch at Fir which they have rent ed, Saturday. Miss Agnes Deschler was seen driv ing a Maxwell car through Belmont Saturday. Miss Pearl Chubb celebrated her ninth birthday last Tuesday. We are very sorry to hear that Mrs. Ed Phelps and small baby have the -smallpox. We hope soon to hear of their recovery. Mr. Burton's family is also in quar antine, as Fnme member, or members, has the smallpox. Sgt. Alfred Van Norder, we are sor ry to say, is still confined to the hospi tal at Camp Lewis. An X ray examin ation has shown that his wound is not healing. A considerable quantity of pus had to be cleaned out, and now the doctors think the healing process will start. Mr. Craton is busv widening the road leading from Methodist Lane to Ala meda Way, blasting out rocks and stumps to make it passable. E. C. Miller was called to Portland Sunday to care for his son, Raymond, who was seriously ill. Jesse Davidson was a business visit or at Hood River last Tuesday. Miss Blowers entertained her pupils at an Easter party at the school house Saturday morning. She served sand wiches, cake and lemonade. Armand Patereau arrived home Sun day, having been in the French service since 1914. The Parent-Teacher Association w ill hold its regular social meeting Friday evening, April L'f.
