JOHNSEN HOOD RIVER SHOE MAN FIRST NATIONAL HAS NEW SYSTEM The First National Bank has begun the new year with a new Burroughs bookkeeping machine. The new me chanical apparatus, enabling the force of the banking' instituiton to do the routine work of computation with a new speed and void of errors that humans, no matter how careful they may be, sometimes make, has been installed for some weeks. The bank invites all of its natrons to see the work of the new machine. The following statement is issued : "Bookkeeping by machinery not only insures absolute accuracy, but lurnianes a sen-correcting, self prov ing system, from which no link can be missing. "With greater speed as an aecom panying advantage, your time and our time a laved. Machine written fig urea on vour statements and our books are uniform and legible; therefore easy to read and unlikely to lead to errors. "In automatically detecting over drafts the system has set up an effec tive barrier a new protection against misuse of the bank'a service. "Please feel free to drop in at our bank any day and let us show you how your account is nanaiea witn a book' keenincr machine. "Hereafter it will not be necessarv for you to leave your pass book for balancing. A machine statement will be furnished instead, and will be readv for you after the first business day of each month. Your pass book will re main in your possession all the time as a permanent receipt for your deposits. "All that it will be necessary to do is to sign a receipt for statement and vouchers so that we may have a record showing that they have been received by the proper person. "Another advantage of this system to you is that you can get a complete statement oi your account on five mm utes' notice. "It is impossible to give any such service when it is necessary to balance a pass book. Listing the cancelled checks often requires more than five minutes, and if there is an error, we would often have to ask for an exten sion of time. "While it is true that a large majority of our customers will take advantage of the statement plan, it should be understood that we are still glad to continue the practice of balancing pass books for those of our Fatrons who desire to have this done, t is our purpose here simply to show you why it is to your benefit to make use of the new statement service. "The monthly machine made state ment enables us to srive vou everv possible protection in your business transactions with us. "Also, the statement we will fur nish you at the end of each month, or any aay during tne month, if wanted, will be accurate, neat in appearance and easy to check. The figures will be uniform and as easy to read as printed ngures."
