Daring the session of tbe Grand Lodge of the Knighta of Fythiaa of Oregon in Portland, next month, mem bers of the order will have the oppor tunity to see the Bible which Juatua H. Rathbone, founder of the order oaed in obligating ita first member half a cen tury ago. Tbia historic relic. which ia dear to the hearta of the 800,000 mem bera of thia fraternity haa never been ihown before west of the Rocky rooun taina. ao the privilege the Oregon Knight will enjoy ia a diitnguiabed one. Fred R. W he a ton of Minneapolia, Minn., Supreme Keeper of Record and Seal of the Supreme Lodge of tbe Knishta of Pvthiaa will be present at tbe coming session of the Grand Lodge and he will bring thia fibie witn mm, Thia Bible, which waa given to the founder of the order by hi mother on his fifth birthday. October 29, 1844.waa used bv him in obligating the first member of the Knighta of Pvthiaa, It waa also used by him in instituting the first lodge of the order, Washington Lodee No. 1. in the national capital on Ferbuarv 19. 1864. Durinar the session of the Grand Lodge the historic Bible will be used in the initiation of a large clasa into the first rank of the order and those who take the first step in Pythianism at that time will be obligated on thia Bible. Tbia Bible haa been used in the initiation of almost 5000 member of the order but it haa never been hereto fore west of the state of Kansas Menfrom all parts of the state will form the class which will be initiated at the Grand Lodge thia year and from nresent indications almost every lodge in the state will take to Portland at least one candidate for thia initiation which will rank aa the most historic event of the kind in the history ol Pvthianiem in Oreeon. Thia feature of the coming Grand Lodee session will make thia conven tion the most noteworthy ever held is the state and it will probably be mar ked bv a lareer attendance than that of anv previous session of the Grand Lodge. The Grand Lodge will convene on Octobr 14 and thia will . be the thir- tv-second annual aesaion. Another feature wnicn win maao uie coming session of the Grand Lodge a notable one is that steps will be taken looking toward the securing of the session of the Supreme Lodge for Port land in 1916. It ia believed tne su oreme Lodge will consent to come to Portland that year and plans for secur ingt his gathering which will bring to Portland prominent men from all parts of the United State and Canada will ha discussed. At the Grand Lodge aes sion last year a committee composed of nrominent Pvthiana from all parte of the state waa appointed to consider thia matter and thia comimttee will renort at the coming session, lhis committee consists of L. Fifty-five eastern Oregon student have signed similar reaolutiona. Lyman G. Rice waa chairman of tbe meeting called for the action taken, and Miss Eva Brock waa secretary. Tbe reso- ntinn ia iriven below. The eastern Oregon students at the University of Oregon take this mesns of expressing their regret that exten sion of the University's facilities hss been delayed by the referendum. We are in daily contact with condi tion at the University and realise how difficult it ia becoming to handle the fast increasing student body wiinout a corresponding increase in facilities. Tbe University baa bad no new build ing for seven years, and the last struc ture erected was a library. The appro priation under the leferendum call for $100,000 for a new administration snd clasa room building and $75,0x0 to make extension and repair to four other building. We know this dded room ia greatly needed, the attendance at the University having doubled since the last new building wa put up. Deady Hall and VillaTd Hall, the orinciDal class rcom buildings now, were built in 1876 and 1885, respectively- .... Pride in our state University and a desire to see it helped rather than hin dered in becoming the great institution it ia destined to be, able to aid thou sands aa it baa aided us, prompts us, in convention thia day assembled, to agree aa follows: Resolved, that wo urge all the people of our respective communities to regis ter without fail and to suppott the University on November 4, in tne two matters that are so vital to its contin ued progress, and Resolved, That we view with sorrow and apprehension the ' misuse of the referendum against the just cause of higher education by indviduals whom we believe to be actuated by motives of private and personal malice, and by other who are well disposed but who have been misled and misinformed.
