George Emry. who accompanied Mr. Carson, aided in the chase and grab bing at Finley as he passed him in one of his corkscrew turns, tore off his shirt. "Frank Robertson, chairman of the committee, has taken much interest in the Mount Hood road, familiarly known as the old 'Barlow Toll ('.ate road,' and has recently returned from his second tour of inspection, having gone to the eastern end of the road. He reports that all rock, stumps and other obtacles have been removed. "The construction of four bridges necessary to make it a practicable automobile road is now under way and will be completed by September 1. From Clear Creek to Wapinitia the road is in good condition, with the exception of a stretch about three miles just east of Clear Creek. He seemed to think we kept them on bund and could pans the one he wanted right over to him. It was the first time he bad ever required an Abstract. He had an opportunity to make an investment which gave promise of rich returns. It was an unusual chance. He hul no ready money so had gone to his bank to get it by placing a mortgage upon his land. The bsnk, according to its cus tom, demanded an Abstract and re ferred him to us. Now the man had lived on this land. He had paid gi.od money for it. He held a Warranty Deed. He thought it was his. It was, but there was a "Cloud upon the Title" which had to be cleared be fore he could obtain any money upon bis land. There were "defects in the 'instruments as recorded which could he remedied only by a decree of the Court. This required time. Mean while the opportunity for the promis ing investment had passed. This is not fiction. It is not even exceptional. It is the sort of thing that is occuring repeatedly. You own land in Hood River County. Y'ou intend, sofne day, to have it covered by an Abstract. Why Not Now? There is nothing to be gained by delay and may lie much to lose. It matters not what you think alKiut your land, your title is only as good as the records show. The business of the Ab stracter is to give you the record of your title. Some people seem afraid to enquire into the title to their land They prefer to play "ostrich" and try to think there can be nothing the trouble with it. When the day comes, as it surely will, thst they must have an Abstract they are disappointed that they have to wait for the Abstracter to do his work. But they can't blame the abstracter. It takes time to pre pare a correct snd complete Abstract. Besides there are always other hurry orders ahead which mu.st be finished before new work is begun. It is even more annoying to learn that the title you thought good is imperfect. The trouble may be slight and of a natun which could he readily removed, but still sufficient to cause an exasperat ing delay at a time when one wishes to make a quick sale or raise monev upon a mortgage. Be wise enough to have your Ab stract made NOW, while there is no urgent need for prompt action. Come in and talk to us about it, we may be able to make a few sugges tions of benefit to you. We have lieen searching Hood River Titles since 1886, and if there is a flaw in the Title we can find it. Hood River Abstract Co. !
